I wanted to preface this entry with a positive note, because in the telling of things you, as my loyal and faithful reader, might infer that I'm complaining, which I am most definitely not.
Wow, have we been busy! Life sure has been moving right along over here these past couple of weeks. It always gets a little busier what with only three weeks between Piper and Jigger's birthdays. Piper's was an unqualified success, a glow in which we're still basking, but the planning of Jigger's is cutting all power to our aforementioned glow and giving me fits with the logistics of it all. You see, for those of you just joining our already-in-progress programming, Jigger's birthday is This Weekend. As is St. Patrick's Day. Oh, and did I mention that Jigger is an Irish Step Dancer?? Right, so you're beginning to see the whole picture. Let me expound on it for you.
Jigger has joined the Performance Team at his dance school for St. Pat's, which is his cup of tea down to the ground. He dances to bring joy to others, which he does, and so needs a dose of performing in a regular fashion. I know that sounds odd, but Irish dance can be consumed by the competitions, which can be pretty intense (if you know the sport, then you know how incredibly generous and tactful I'm being in my descriptions), and we find that too much competition and not enough joy in performing for the masses really bums Jigger out and he loses a lot of his love for the dance.
Anywhoooo, our weekend actually begins on Friday morning this weekend, as Jigger has his first performance an hour and a half away at 9 a.m., another at 1.30 p.m., and a third at 4.30 p.m. The ceili runs from 7-9 p.m., which we will attend as we always try to do, as it's such a wonderful and fun place to be! (For those of you new to our broadcast, or who have missed previous episodes, a ceili [kay' lee] is an Irish country dance similar to square dancing, but with more flair [sorry to my square dancing audience; nothing personal]. All are welcome to dance... you need have no experience, just a desire to have fun. Best part is it's not age-discriminatory~ toddlers to the elderly regularly get up and grab a partner, or are grabbed, and hit the dance floor.) This year, the Minister of Ireland himself is going to be at our humble St. Pat's celebration, from the ceili to the parade and Faire afterwards. What fun!
Saturday will find us leaving the house between 7.30 and 8 a.m., as Piper needs to be in parade position by 8.30 to warm up his pipes and get tuned, etc. After dropping Piper off and making sure he's settled, mo chroi will be dropping Jigger and I off to walk with his dance school. The parade begins at 10, Irish Time (which is a tongue-in-cheek way of saying all things Irish start late). It will end up at the Irish Cultural Center, where the Faire will commence and merriment can be found. Jigger performs with his school at 2.35p. that afternoon, after which we will head home to begin the second portion of our weekend: Jigger's birthday celebration.
Two of his friends are spending the night, and then Sunday, being Jigger's actual birthday (he moans every year about WHY couldn't I have had him a day early?? I moan right back that I was aiming for the 25th (then I would have been Jan. 25, Piper Feb 25, and Jigger Mar 25), so why was he in an all-fired hurry to get out?! lol Anyway, Sunday afternoon will be the family birthday party, and I'm sure loads of fun will be had by all.
So, that is our upcoming weekend in a nutshell, and if I don't blog about it here and now, I won't get a chance until next week, and I owe everyone a new post, as it's just not right to keep a Memoriam post up front for as long as I have. I've had twinges of guilt due to the neglecting of my blog lately, and even a passing thought or two of just shutting the thing down entirely. I'd miss everyone too much, though, and so soldier on. lol
Well, in light of the week that's only going to get busier as the days progress, let me be the first to wish you and yours a wonderful weekend, and a very Happy St. Patty's Day!! If you're in the Phoenix area, come on by for the parade, and stop and say hey! We'd love to see you there!
Once we have moved(must be one of the slowest moves in history-joke!)I'm really hoping that my children will find that special sport or hobby that they love so much, just like jigger!!
Have a good week.xx
Yes, I'm doing much better with my husband's night shift routine, really appreciate the prayers - God is faithful! I agree about today's movies - we never go see one in a theater (too expensive and not worth it) and only occasionally buy a new video. Most of our video/DVD collection is made up of old or older movies. They sure don't make them like they used to! Have a great weekend and wish your son Happy Birthday! I'll be thinking of you when I'm wearin' the Green!
About your comment, "I've had twinges of guilt due to the neglecting of my blog lately, and even a passing thought or two of just shutting the thing down entirely..." --- I sometimes feel the same way, because the blog has almost become one more thing I "have to" do. Either I'm feeling bad because I have all these blogs in my head that i don't have time to actually post, OR I'm feeling guilty about wasting far too much time on the things I do post! Our blogs were created to bring us joy, and it is sad when we feel like "slaves" to our blogs. Let's not. Altho I look forward to your new posts, I don't mind checking back here and finding the same one up for a couple weeks, as long as the blog is still here!
Have a wonderful busy weekend, and don't forget the chocolate to get you through! :-)
Happy birthday to Jigger as well! I know what you mean about thinking about shutting down you blog. I had siimilar thoughts until one day when I looked back at the beginning--this is a good bit of family history I'm writing and well worth the time!
Sounds like you are having a whirlwind weekend. Happy birthday to Jigger! I enjoy reading your blog and don't mind waiting for new post. I'd really miss not hearing from you but don't feel guilty about going with out posting for a while. Blogging is suppose to be fun and like a diary. Enjoy it and only do it when it fits. Have a great week.
Okay so I had to take a deep breath after reading your post. Man, you weren't kidding! That was quite a weekend! I think it would be so cool if you could post little video clips of Jigger dancing and Piper in the parade. I bet it's quite enjoyable to watch your boys perform!!!!
And you better not go anywhere, Missie! :) LOL! I'd miss you!! I don't get around to my blog as much lately either.
