Is anyone else in the throes of planning next year's school year? With their first year of HIGH SCHOOL? My eyes are bleeding, I swear they are! I find that it's difficult to focus, and every question my wonderful husband asks me gets a mumbled, absent response having to do with curriculum. For instance, "What's for dinner, honey?" begets this: "Warriner's Grammar and Eats Shoots and Leaves would be a good foundation for...." (it becomes unintelligible at this point). I feel like Chicken Little, running around screeching "the sky is falling" without actually accomplishing anything.
I am reading a murder mystery for my 'down time' enjoyment (translation: when my brain crashes from sorting through far too many curriculum choices). We are schooling in earnest, as we have only 6 weeks left of school (yes, we are still schooling). I'm de-cluttering my home. I'm trying to sew myself a skirt or two. Jigger has a request in for a summer robe. I'm working on Christmas presents. We have a birthday and Father's Day this week. Life is full. God is good.
Meanwhile, the avalanche of curriculum catalogs is teetering precariously over my head. Yes, Chicken Little, the sky IS falling.

My oldest will graduate next year. We have homeschooled from kindergarten. I remember planning that first year of high school. I'm pretty sure it gave me a headache or two. I don't have any advice except to say, cherish every moment. Take time for long talks. As quickly as their childhoods go by, high school goes by even quicker. For me, high school has been a profound time of letting go. My son isn't leaving, he's doing college at home, but I have had to completely let go of the process- and the outcome. I pray for God's peace for you today and for wisdom and insight as you begin this portion of your homeschooling journey. My you and your high schooler have a closer relationship with God and with each other when high school comes to a close.
Blessings,
Sandy

Jun. 11, 2008 - We're still schooling, too!
If you can call it "still" - we break for lots these days. I can relate with sewing projects and organizational projects. I'm trying to de-clutter too much too quickly and more mess ends up in the middle.
We just changed our curriculum for next year so I am really looking forward to it- now I just need to sit down and really look into it! Good luck and you have a beautiful blog!
