Tightwad Tuesday

Posted in Tightwad Tuesdays

It's time again for Tightwad Tuesday with Canadagirl.  A huge thank you to Mary for hosting this event!  If you would like to participate, go visit Mary first.

In the interest of making food from scratch, I'm going to continue with my theme of avoiding pre-packaged, processed foods.  Today I'm going to share with you my (and my family's!) favorite salsa recipe.  Throw some tortilla chips with it, and you have a fantastic snack in about 10 minutes.  I hope you enjoy it!  Olé!

Shani's Homemade Salsa

3 medium to large tomatoes, diced

1 bunch green onions, diced (all of the white, and a couple 2-3 inches into the green)

1 bunch fresh cilantro, finely chopped

3-8 cloves of garlic, pressed; adjust to taste

1 lime, cut in half

salt and pepper to taste (I use kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper)

Place tomatoes, onions, cilantro, garlic, salt and pepper into a bowl.  Squeeze the juice from both halves of the lime over the mixture.  Stir well, and enjoy!!

I never heard or thought of making salsa without hot peppers in it! Duh! That would certainly make it more child friendly. Yumm!

This looks like my kind of salsa -- no jalapenos! Yea! Here's my question: where do you get a REAL tomato?? (I suppose you grow them, lol.) When I ever get one, I'll try this. Thanks for the recipe.

We like salsa and that looks good. I wish that I had grown tomatoes, then I could be making lots of it. Somehow I just never got around to getting some plants this Spring.
