Jun. 11, 2007 - How feminine did a cowgirl really feel???

I wondered that today.

Did those strong, courageous women who pioneered unchartered lands really feel feminine? Does the farmer's wife of today who lives in the dry and parched drought-stricken expanses of barren countryside still feel feminine?? If so, how does she do it?

I have not felt particularly feminine for a while now. Life in this land has dried me as much as the earth. Oh, how I long to wear swirling skirts and feminine blouses, with pretty sandals, some make-up, and my long hair caught up in a softly curling twist, exposing brightly bejewelled dangling earrings.

It seems my skin is cracking constantly, my heels are peeling daily, and my hair has that brittle brush sensation the day after I shampoo. My eyes even itch from the lack of moisture in my body. What is a girly-type to do?! You need to wear boots as soon as you walk out the door or your soft soled shoes would be full of prickly cats-eyes...and jeans are the most practical choice of attire in this windy, dusty place.

I came across this blog yesterday. It was linked from my friend Julie's blog and it stirred within me a burning desire to re-femininise myself. I was so inspired by the fact that even little things can make all the differnce.

However, in order to do that I'll need to take some priority time each day just for myself, no husband or kids allowed, and begin at the beginning with some simple things that can kick-start the rebuilding of this very ramshackle middle-aged structure called the female body.

So, today I did two things - I applied a good moisturising of honey and almond body butter, and I am wearing a funky 'bundle of beads necklace' of assorted red and brown wooden beads interspersed with tiny sea shells.  That gave me a bit of a boost, but I'll sit down later today and think of all the things I can do over the next few weeks to bring back my 'severely parched' sense of femininity.

If you can think of simple things I can do please tell me. I need help.

I know from experience that coconut oil does wonders for dry skin! Any pretty little bangle helps to make me feel lovely, too!

Jun. 13, 2007 - Hi

Hi, My name is Ginger and I'm new to HB and I'm liking it. I think you're a beautiful person inside and out. It's great you work so hard that your feet are cracking and all (although I'm sure you don't like the fact). I do all the yard work at my home (mowing, weedeating, racking, and weeding) and it's so hot I do it usually in flip flops (so my ankles are rough also). I went to Beauty school and learned that when our ankles get rough we can take a pumice stone and gently rub away the roughness. I worked on mine a few days ago! I think it's great you put the almond-honey lotion on yourself today and the colorful beads with shells! I work hard at home, but I also wear earrings everyday, mascara every day, I use lotion almost daily and I have good hygeine. I know I get all sweaty sometimes and dirty, but I clean up nice. Just remind yourself you are a princess of King Jesus and you deserve to be pampered after a hard days work (if you must, pamper yourself with a bubble bath in natural bath salts for example!) You ARE beautiful! Have a blessed day!
Your new friend, Ginger

Jun. 14, 2007 - Feeling Feminine

Dear Jenny
Glad tp take a moment and pop on over and visit you:) Yep the winds do it I reckon just suck away our beauty. sigh. The cream sounds great, and just as important to the feeling is the taking time to take care of yourself. Have you thought of wearing soft flowy denim skirts. Could that work there?

Btw, I have just tagged you at my blog (http://sevenlittleaustralians.blogspot.com) for a meme:)

I'm not a makeup person myself, but I know from Flylady.net that there is something to be said for pampering yourself a little. I like to wear a shirt with a v-neck because I find it more flattering than your everyday t-shirt. If I spend more time on my hair I feel great. After I wash it, I use mayonnaise as a conditioner.Don't use too much or the oil will flatten it. Just a teaspoon or less goes a long way. Let it sit for a while and then rinse. I also use essential oils when I brush it. I put a drop or two of lavender or geranium oil in warm water and dip my brush into it. I have a lot of hair, so I tend to pull it back out of necessity, but when I'm feeling creative I do french braids or twists which definitely make me feel more attractive.

Peace and Laughter,
Cristina

Jul. 8, 2007 - dry skin!

Posted by belindaletchford

Isn't it awful! The weather certainly brings it on up here. Just today I noticed that my whole body was just itchy with dry skin. It will be into the cream pot tonight! My heals are cracking - and that is because I refuse to wear shoes inside my house! It is hot enough as it is - well, that is one of my excuses. I find Vicks Rub works great on the heals over night. (not if they are so deeply cracked there is blood though as that stings!)
Yep! The more I talk about it - the more I know that is what is install for me tonight! Actually I think I'll watch a movie and do a foot soak which is something I do when I feel low on the feminie stakes! Clean feet, and painted toenails!
I know you wrote this a month or so ago ! But I am motivated to go and look after my feet!
