Hello

I have been enjoying reading about your "curriculum" choices at blue engine schoolhouse. I am using abeka and bju, and it's okay for now. I have always been a by the book person, but I am not so sure it will work for each of my kids. My third grader hates being homeschooled. And we have only been doing it for two weeks at this point. How do I make this thing more fun, enjoyable, etc. I know some things just have to be done wether they want to or not. But, I want them to enjoy learning and sometimes I feel like it's just not going to happen! This is my first year and I am so nervous about branching out and trying different things-but I really want to. I am collecting ideas to check out a little at a time-your ideas are great! Thanks! Blessings to you!
In Christ's love,
Beth

Canadian food

Please don't take this the wrong way, but the "Canadian" food you listed is all weird stuff and isn't common across the whole country. Toutire, fish & brewis, poutine & tire sur la neige are mainly Quebec and east coast. Pemmican is a native staple from the time of the explorers, it is not commonly eaten! Beaver tails are delicious, but are pretty much something we buy at carnivals or fairs. As for maple baked beans, Heinz makes a pretty good can of them!! You forgot all the good "Canadian" foods too! Hamburgers, hot dogs, saskatoon berry pie (like blueberry, only better!) ice cream, cake, normal stuff. Oh and buffalo steaks, while they are available in select markets, you really have to get past the texture (kind of grainy) to enjoy the taste which is quite like beef. Some people like it, but I know many who don't!
Having said all that, I really did enjoy your post and I checked around your blog a bit and liked it very much! Come on over and visit me!
Blessings
Kathleen

*laughter* I'll post this to you, too, but I just wanted people to know I knew these weren't necessarily TRADITIONAL Canadian foods. These were the //unusual// Canadian foods that we found worth a look into. (We like buffalo burgers here. :D) Here in Springfield, IL, we have a speciality dish called a horseshoe. While not all people eat the horseshoe (I don't even LIKE horseshoes!), if someone came to Springfield, that's what I'd recommend them trying, even though we have hot dogs, corn on the cob, and apples galore. :) All that aside, I wasn't offended. I like comments and readers can only benefit from a real Canadian perspective. :)
