Posted By TEACH Magazine

Lorrie FlemYou know how one thing leads to another. That is happening in my home this week. I decided to move my dresser out of my bedroom. That required I find some new homes for things. No problem. I moved the hair bows, the girls don't need me to pick for them anymore. To put the hair bows in the back hall closet I had to move the birthday gifts. I decided the best place for them was in the storage room . . . Four closets later the things from my dresser are put away and my house looks like more than one tornado hit it!

This made me think of sin. While the children and I were running things back and forth to their new homes I talked to them about how a little thing I set out to do - I only wanted to put away some things - had grown to the point of disrupting our lives in nearly every room of our house. This is like sin. It starts so small we think it won't really matter. We think we can use a bad word just once and then never say it again, we are just like Eve. We don't want to believe that one little mistake can have big repercussions. Yet, one bite of the apple is disobedience and the fact is, the result of sin is far-reaching and long-lasting.

ENCOURAGEMENT FOR MOMS
with Lorrie Flem talking about Attitudes
Thursday Night Oct 18, 2007 - 9:00 PM EDT
Contact Information Below
==========================================

Dear Friends,

Judging by the overwhelming number of people who took time to post at my blog this week about phone seminars, I know that tonight’s topic on Attitudes with Lorrie Flem is perfectly timed.

Here is a sampling of just a few of the comments that have been posted:

Dear Marilyn,

“I loved Lorrie’s last phone seminar. She has a gentle way of guiding and encouraging moms and I learned a lot from her. Thanks Marilyn for providing us with so many opportunities for support and encouragement.”

Dear Marilyn,

“ I loved Lorrie's last phone seminar and can't wait for the one coming up this Thursday.”

Dear Marilyn,

“You bet attitude is everything and I appreciate your teleseminars to help with mine! Although, I have to keep my attitude in check when I don't dial into one early enough & miss out! It is very disappointing!”

 Dear Marilyn,

“The timing of this phone seminar is so encouraging for me. In my last two times with the Lord he has been showing me how I need to grow in training my own mind and my children, even specifically their attitudes. I've never attended a seminar before and am really looking forward to it!”

Dear Marilyn,

“Thank you so much for offering free phone seminars. Attending a seminar in real life seems nearly impossible at the moment so it's wonderful to be able to listen in to a FREE teleconference while at home.”

Lorrie has said, "Training our children's attitude is how we teach our children to learn to obey God cheerfully, and then we will be happy."  We will be talking about how she first became interested in this topic of attitudes and why attitudes matter so much.

If you know Lorrie, she is an expert in practical topics and will be giving us examples from the Bible where attitudes worked for good and for evil.

Most importantly, we will brainstorm practical ways to get out of bad attitudes and, of course, take time for audience questions.  If you would like to ask Lorrie a question, please email your questions to marilyn@urbanhomemaker.com

Attitudes Seminar Download Information:
If you would like to listen to the seminar with Lorrie but the timing of tonight’s seminar does not fit into your schedule, you may listen to an MP3 recording of this seminar by CLICKING HERE.

Our next phone seminar will be Thursday October 25, 2007 at 3:00 PM EDT (nap time seminar) talking with Jen Albritton about The Food Foundation for Healthy Families.  We will be talking about how to serve healthy and economical food to your children and family and much more.  More information will be published next week.

• Jul. 9, 2007 - What is a Family?

Posted By TEACH Magazine

In today's world it is not always easy to keep our definition of a family
the same as God's. We are bombarded with the idea that what "they" do and
believe is their business. And as long as they leave us alone we won't fuss
at them.

I cry "Nay!" Let me lay it out very simply. God views the family as a whole
unit. The world wants us to believe a family is a group of individuals who
happen to live together - for now.

Let's look at how we know how God defines a family. Even though it was Eve
who ate from Satan's apple the ultimate responsibility for this sin was
Adam's. Also, biblically it is fathers who can covenant for the entire
family and break a covenant for the entire family.

Traditionally it was obvious that this definition of a family was what
society held. When the Mayflower Compact and the Declaration of Independence
were signed it was men who affixed their signatures as heads of households.
At that time the U.S. was commonly viewed as a compilation of families under
the headship of God-appointed men, or fathers.
For centuries when a Christian father signed a covenant or voted, he held
one vote for his entire family. Today people worry that this leaves out
women and children.

But the real question is do you believe God's definition
of a family or the worlds? Is a family a group of single individuals or is
it a single unit? Is our family a group of single individuals or are we a
God-ordained team who recognizes the father as the head?

God designed three institutions: state, church, and family. The state is to
have the power to enforce the law and see that justice is served upon those
who break it. The church is to teach the Word of God and bring discipline on
those who break God's laws. The family can do none of these. The family's
responsibility is exclusive. It has the responsibility of training and
governing it's own affairs according to the Word of God.

Each of these three institutions are to be independent but all are to be
held to a higher law, the law of God. This is what our founding fathers
believed when they set up the United States Government, shared
accountability under the law of God. This is a family.

Lorrie

Dear Friends,

You may have already known that my dear Mom, Nancy Nolan, has been battling cancer for quite awhile now.  We have had many triumphs and trials through this and we are now spending much time with her as her health is failing very quickly.  Would you please keep us all in prayer?  Thank you very much, from the bottom of my heart,

4 Homekeeping Skills Every Girl (and Boy) Should Know

Mrs. Lorrie Flem

Copyright 2007 TEACHmagazine.com

There are just some skills that every girl needs to know in order to run her own (or help you with yours!) home. These are some of the first I made sure my 3 girls knew.

1. Salad making
We eat a salad as a part of dinner nearly every night. It is truly a help to me if others can keep this fresh and filled. I teach them how to wash and cut leaf lettuce and spinach with a table knife. I make sure they understand which vegtables are to be peeled, and seeded, and how I like them cut for the salad. I enjoy teaching them that we make a salad look delicious by using a variety of colors. When they get to wear their own
sweet little apron it makes salad making even more fun.

2. Running a load of laundry
In my home a "load of laundry" encompasses all the steps to get one load out and a new one in. I make sure they know how to fold, and put away the clean clothes from the dryer. I also show them how to properly sort the clothes, appropriately use soap and treat dirty spots, and run and empty the clothes from the machine and into the dryer. That is a "load" of laundry - one load out and put away and a new one drying and washing.

3. Serving tea
My children learn how to make a cup of tea when they are about 4 years old. This might have something to do with the fact that nearly every morning you will find me consuming a couple of cups. I want them to know how to serve it from using an appropriate cup all the way to asking them if they would like their cup freshened. You can reward them with their own
special china tea set too.

4. Cleaning up the kitchen
I like them to understand that if they use the kitchen for preparing food and eating that after they are done I don't want mself or Sherlock Holmes to be able to tell they have been there. I teach them that this is "clean."

Make sure your children know these things. It will be a blessing to you now, and to them for the rest of their lives!

• May. 31, 2007 - Need some more encouragement??

Posted By TEACH Magazine
Dear Ladies,

I want to send a heartfelt thank you to each of you who has purchased from our Baker's Dozen Bundle Sale, What an encouragement to us. And do you know what?

You are going to get what you are giving us - I know that after you get your bundles encouragement is what you will receive too!

One thing I began doing recently is to pray using Proverbs 31 as my model. I am so excited to share this idea with you! Go through verse by verse and make that a part of your praying for each day. Since there are 31 verses in this chapter it works out nicely.

Let me give you an example. The first verse starts by telling us these are, “The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him.” So I pray for my mom and for the Lord to help me remember and to learn from what she taught me.

I hope that idea inspires you like it did me! Again, don’t forget – there are only days left to purchase bundles (everything I have written to help you deal with a specific topic) at an incredible savings and get a bundle of goodies to go with them!

Don’t miss out!

Happily Serving Him,

13 Easy Things to Make Your Day More Productive

Mrs. Lorrie Flem

1. Train their hearts first. It is much easier to teach your children to obey than to willingly obey. Yet willing obedience is what God wants from us and wants us to teach our children. It is vital that you know what to do, when to do it, and exactly how to do it.

2. Make your husband the priest of your home. Next to your relationship with the Lord there is no other relationship more important than the one you have with your husband. Make this a top priority and be sure that you know the one thing God says men need. You can't be the best wife without knowing this.

3. Be committed to homeschooling. Satan is the master murderer. He does everything he can to divert, damage, decieve, and destroy. Don't be unarmed. He doesn't want you to be successful at homeschooling. He is after you. Ensure that you are prepared for what he is going to throw at you by knowing what he is going to do before he does it.

4. Train your children to obey. If your children do not obey you completely the first time you tell them to do something then they are not obeying. Knowing the definition for true obedience and how to teach your children that this is what you require.

Stay tuned … the next email newsletter will have some more!

Psss. Notice that we have a bundle to go along with each of these 4 things: character training, marriage, homeschooling, and child training.

Be sure and
check them all out here:

About Me

I want to teach my children to think like entrepeneurs and think outside the box. I don't think the one-size fits all high school experience and college degree is necessary for success in life. This blog is a place for me to collect all my thoughts and articles that I read. This collection will help guide me on our family's homeschool journey. I pray we will, with God's help, prepare our children for success in life.
