I've been surfing around tonight looking at many wonderful sites and blogs and came upon one that has inspired me to do something more than my usual. I've never been a big recycler. I used to recycle when the town made it easy but I have moved and this town does not have curbside pickup so not only do I throw everything away, but I have to pay for it too. Now and then though I find a way to do something good for the earth. I reuse lots of paper and plastic bags and stopped buying the newspaper years ago. I get a certain magazine for a few years, keep all the copies then stop the subscription and just reuse the old mags. So just now I found some more great ideas from Ginny at Proverbs 22:6 Academy. Cloth napkins! I love them but rarely use them because I have so few. I don't know why I never thought to make my own. What in the world we do without other friendly bloggers? Now as a sort of spin off from that I remembered that my sister always uses silk hankies because they are softer on her skin. Now I can't afford to go out and buy silk hankies but for the amount of paper tissues I have gone through this winter, I think it would certainly be a savings to our earth to make some of those silk ones up. The best part is that I just happen to have a few worn out silk blouses from the 80's that I was ready to get rid of. I am going to pull those babies out and make them into lots of silk hankies. If I get enough I may even give a few to my dear sister for her birthday. |
