Colossians 3:17

I think I know the answer

Today I am in a weird place, because I am trying to reconcile what I learn in Church and the bible with the way people act in the church.

See for over a year our Sunday school class has been complaining that we never get new members. That the church isn't helping our class grow and that maybe they don't want our class around. We are the only non-senior adult class at the 11:00 hour. In the past month God has blessed our class with 5 new members, but instead of being grateful for this, they have ran one couple off because they refuse to honor their feelings on the recent election and politics. Another member who happens to be a single adult was told yesterday that she was not welcome and if she went ahead and joined the class there would be no class because two other members of the class would leave the class, and since these other members are more important or pivotal to the class, the class would break apart. The other two new members seem to be welcome, at this point.

Let me also state that several members of the church have suggested to this young adult that she should join our Sunday school class. Kind of ironic…

What I find the most troubling about this entire situation is that, why is it so difficult for people to walk the Christian walk. I am a relatively new Christian, only about 5 years saved. Having been raised in a non-Christian home, I have seen both sides of the fence. It always takes me by surprise when people who say that they are following Christ treat other believers like they don't belong or that they just are unwanted because they don't fit a particular profile.

Why would a non-believer even what to attempt to come into this community if we can't even treat other members of our "family" like they are wanted?

I can tell you that the reason that I fought so hard against God is because of this problem.

When a church or their members say "Hey everyone is welcome, Oh except you…"  "We want you to be a Christian. We want you to join our Church, but you have to the right political beliefs, or are just the right age, or be the right type of Christian to belong here…"

I ask you what does that message send a young adult just starting out on their own about Christian life? The other thought that I had is many of these same members wonder and agonize over the fact that so many young adults leave the church when they become college age… I guess I don't have to wonder about that question anymore…

God is Amazing!!

Last week I posted on Craigslist that we would be willing to trade our house for one with land. This week someone else posted that they would like to trade!

Well they came and looked at our house and fell in love, we have also looked at their house and it is perfect! If I could have sent God an email as to what my perfect place would be it would be this house!! We are all so excited and prayerful.

Now just to figure out the details!

New Job

Jeff started working this week with a new company today and really likes it there. It is nice that he is happy. He also told me that he feels that all of the lay offs have been leading him straight to this job.

I also need to say Happy Birthday to my 18 year old!!

Out of work again

My husband called today to tell us that he would be late getting home, as they were having an "all hands meeting" he then called later on to say it wasn't going to be good that lay offs were coming. At 4:30 he called to say that he was pacing his desk up to be escorted out...

So we have a few days of furlough with out pay and are job hunting. Thank God that he has been dissatisfied with his job lately and has already been looking. Another blessing is that a friend of our at Church is with a company that is looking for an IT guy and maybe DH can fill in until they find the right guy! He will try and get DH an interview next week.

God got us through in 2001 with a new baby no less, then again 3 years ago, I know that He will get us through this. I really don't like October...

Another story about the pet store

My oldest has been bugging us for a ferret, cute, but stinky. I remember when I was in 6th grade an a lady visited school with one and we all learned that they can spray like a skunk... With all the critters we have I am sure the poor thing would get sprayed out in a day! So my husband and I told her that we would think about it and do some research. Well last week we gave her the OK to start her search, you can descent a ferret!

She found one on craigslist that sounded OK it was older than she wanted, but it was healthy and descented! Plus for mom. So off to the pet store we go to check on the pricing of cages. We walk into our local pet store and what do we find... baby ferrets that are less money than the older one on craigslist. Double plus they are up to date on shots, neutered and discented! I bet you can guess where this is going... yep Jack Sparrow joined our family at 3 months 11 days old!

But here is the twist to my tail. My husband is with youngest child and they are looking at rats! Yep you guessed it again 'ole we have too many critters dad, is helping his daughter pick out a 6 week old rat! He is really cute and the prettiest shade of blue grey! She named him Jared out of the Spiderwick books.

So much for my DH saying "I have to go to the pet store with you guy to keep you from getting any more critters" LOL Not only did we come home with one more critter thanks to him we came home with two!!

I am in Love and my Husband know about it! Hee Hee

Today we went to the barn to clean Kiva's stall, to ride and to just enjoy the barn! I miss having land and animals the smells of the barn. I really am a country girl at heart and living in town some days drives me crazy. That is why I am so thankful for my daughter's love of horses. Nothing makes me happier than to hear my youngest laugh at the antics of the new colt trying to run!

Now here is the new, Conner the horse my daughter is helping to train has a new stable mate! She is a young dun colored mare with a flaxen main and I am totally in love with her! Now to just get moved and get our house sold.... I know God has it covered and when the time is right we are out of there and hopefully bringing home more than one horse!

Watching my Daughter grow sometimes a very hard thing to do

I have a hard lesson to learn and I am going to need God to get through it. My oldest is going to college for Equine Science which really is an open ended career. She can become a vet, teach kids to ride, board and stable, or what she has chosen to become a horse trainer. This is where you work with horses that others have messed up or who have been allowed to develop bad habits. There is the sub track that takes you right into a ring of fire, rehabilitation of abused and mistreated horses of course that is the track my daughter has chosen. Most of the time she will be working with animals that are hurting and need her to love and reach out to them, while they are doing whatever possible to protect themselves even if it means stomping those trying to help them. But she does have a gift for this type of work, how did we find this out?

Enter into the picture Conner a six year old gorgeous paint mare with blue eyes and beaten so bad that she almost died then survived only to end up on a slaughter truck, rescued from that fate and brought into my daughters life by the rescue that our stable works with... Of course my daughter is in love and of course the mare is only responding to my daughter... Like her boss said my daughter has a gift from God. I have to agree she is on the path God has given her and she is thriving.

Now the hard part for mom... I have to watch my baby girl walk into a arena with a horse that though she is learning to trust and responds to this human, all of her instincts are screaming hurt before being hurt. With God at her side my daughter is bravely walk where few dare to go..

I just have to trust God's love for my daughter and for some a very special hurting horses.

What was I thinking!

School started a few weeks ago and I just completed my first week at co-op! I generally love the first day of school especially the first day of co-op but this year it was different, see a few months ago my director called and asked me to teach High School Science in addition to teaching the 3rd graders!! I said yes!! What was I thinking?? I can't teach High Schoolers, I know I can't He can and I bet I will enjoy it LOL. Well I was right I am loving it, what a great group of kid!! I am blessed each day when I go to school. I actually am having more fun than I did when I taught Kindergarten full time! That is saying something. I love my Kinder's.

So once again it just proves that God knows more than I do!

College bound

Today my oldest is starting her first day as a college freshman! She is going to Western Dakota Technical University a two year online college! It is one of the best school in Equine Science and is taking the Management track! It is strange that she is totally on her own as far as school goes and that I have no in put or anything to do as far as her schooling goes!

So both of us have taken a huge step this year away from each other as mother and daughter, yet we are starting a new cool relationship as friends! I think I like that!

Stepping out into a new world

This Friday my oldest daughter will be stepping out into the new world as an adult. She and 24 of her peers at church will have all graduated from High School, by then. Some will graduate from large city High Schools others like my daughter will graduate from smaller co-op or homeschools. All will be facing the world as caring, full of excitement, knowing Jesus – adults.

Last Sunday our church had a ceremony honoring these young men and women and graduating them into either the women’s or men’s ministry from the youth ministry program. Each was met head on with the reality that they were no longer considered a part of the Youth any more, they were in fact handed over to the adult education minister from the youth minister they had grown up with since they entered into the youth program in grade 7 now 6, in a similar ceremony, many of them hardly remember.

There were a lot of tears and hugs, and emotions were high as these young adults step out to meet their future, but I know that our youth pastor, his wife and their families have given them a firm foundation to stand on and they will do fine.

All I can add is Congratulations class of 2008!!!

Kiva

Yesterday, while we were out helping at the stables, Sue (stable owner) came over and told my oldest daughter to tack and ride Kiva, that she really needed it. This is one of her favorite horses. She is older, stable, well trained, a wonderful horse for a beginning rider. She then told my husband and I that Kiva was now available to adopt through FFER.

So now my oldest had a decision to make, between two horses she loves, DC the pony and Kiva the quarter horse. Since we were out at the stable yesterday volunteering, there is a lot of work needing to be done at a place like Iron Springs. She asked me to help her  groomed Kiva after riding her, in other words she need to talk.

To me it was a simple decision, but then my heart wasn’t as involved, we had found out some things about DC in the last few months that really bothered me. One he hasn’t been ridden in almost 2 years, and during that time has been turned out at all the times. So he would have to be worked with a professional trainer for a while, before he could be ridden by anyone. Secondly, we were told that DC was a perfect children’s horse and that even our youngest could ride him. When I told Sue that she was shocked. She told us that his temperament is very hot, she said that she would be afraid to put oldest daughter or anyone but the most experienced riders on DC, and that would only be after he received a lot of ground work and training. Plus, with the need a lot of expensive training it would have taken him out of the ability for our oldest to pay for and work for his keep.

Add to this that Kiva’s adoption fee was exactly the amount that she had in saving to buy her futre horse! Plus the fact that Kiva loves my oldest as much as she loves her, they just have a connection, DH was asked by two different people, one a trainer there to talk about work with some horses and kids, and the other a mom that board there, if Kiva was our horse, they both were surprised to find out that she wasn’t, as the connection is that evident!

Sooo to make a short story even longer, our oldest has spent her savings and bought her first horse!

Update on Maggie May

We went to the vet and she was given a clean bill of health! Our vet said that she will probably get to be between 80 and 100 pounds! So a nice size dog. We just love her, she is just so sweet and lovable!

I wish I could figure out how to get a picture off of my phone! She was riding home with her bumm up on the back deck of the car with her feet on the seat, looking out the window! We were able to get a picture of it at a stop light… I wonder what the folks driving behind us thought :o)

Ok it isn’t just my daughter!!

I know that I have given my oldest daughter a lot of grief about going to the pet food store and bringing home a new pet… Well now I am guilty.

Yesterday on our first stop of our errands in the city we stopped at PetsMart. They were hosting and adopt-a-pet fair and we ran into the most beautiful, almost 7 month old puppy. Well I couldn’t resist her, in my defence we have been thinking about  getting another dog since our beloved Schultzie died a year and a half ago, and seriously for the last 4 or so months. So I can’t really claim this as an impulse thing.

So Maggie May is now the newest member of our family! She is half Blue Heeler and Half Leonberger (a breed of German Mastiff)!! But she is sooo sweet and cuddly.

Maggie Jean

She is right now laying on my feet asleep after playing with Marty… Who loves having a big-little sister as my youngest calls it.

New Project from an old house

We have had a dollhouse hanging around for years… First it was my oldest daughters, then it became my youngest and they both loved playing with it, but now they are ready for it to leave…

Well I have became really attached to it.. So when my youngest wanted to get rid of it, I thought what a fun project it would be to turn it into a collectors doll house. We started by bringing it back to the plain wood and removing some of the stuff that makes it a play house.

Then with an idea that my dad had we started cutting up cereal boxes and designing the roof lines. I plan on making the same modifications on the other side of the house. Our next step is to remove the existing windows and open the back up more.

Here is what we have done so far:

I will keep you posted with our progress!

What to give for Christmas

I have been baking and freezing already for some of the gift basket that I am making for gifts. I ran on to these recipes too. I think that they will go nicely for gifts for the ladies on our lists.

Gifts Gel Air Fresheners
Heat 1 cup of distilled water to boiling. Stir in 4 packages of unflavored gelatin (e.g., Knox) until dissolved. Remove the mixture from heat and stir in the other 1 cup water. Add 10-20 drops of essential oil or other concentrated fragrance. If desired, add food coloring to tint your gel. You may also wish to add a mold inhibitor, such as 1-2 T salt. Pour the gel into clean baby food jars or other small, decorative containers. The gel will set at room temperature, although you can place the air fresheners in the refrigerator for a quick set (and scented fridge). Decorate your jars as desired and enjoy! You can also layer to colors of gel just like you would a Jell-O desert.

Sugar Scrub
1 Cup Sugar, 1 tsp glycerin, 1 tsp sea salt, Food coloring, Essential Oil
Mix well pour into seal able jar.

Bath Soak
2 Cups Epson Salts, 2 Cups Sea Salt, 1-2 tsp soda, 10-12 drops food coloring, 10-12 drops essential oil. mix using a baggie keep in baggie or transfer to jars as gifts.

Plus lots of cookies and candy!

Going Green again!

Since we are prayfully moving soon, to a small farm http://www.squirrelcreekfarm.com. I thought I would brush up on my green cleaning. I had used store bought natural cleaners around my house before, (when my oldest was a baby) but with the expense of having two kids, we started using which ever was cheaper!

In my search recently I found that they are now the thing to buy and are much, much more than what we paid previously. So I started reading the web and searching for recipe to make my own.  I have found that making my own cleaners are much cheaper than buying commercial cleaners that are septic safe, even cheaper than the ones that I have been buying that aren’t septic, environmentally safe, I have also found out that they are better for my families health too!

I have quite a list of recipes compiled and am going through each one and trying them out to see which recipe I like the best. The first one is a winner!

I had been using the Sam’s cheapo laundry detergent for some time. I have really been disappointed with it as our clothes are really dingy unless I add Clorox II to the load which defeats the purpose of saving money! I have also been trying to find something else that will save us money, but will not affect my youngest daughter’s eczema. It hasn’t been going well. I had came to the conclusion that I would be using the cheap stuff for the rest of the family and buying Dreft for my youngest and doing twice as many loads!

But I am happy to report that my first foray into making my own detergent has been a huge success!! With both the cost of the product, the cleanliness of my families clothes and my youngest daughters eczema!!

Here is the recipe:
12 Cups of Borax
12 Cups of Baking Soda (not washing soda)
1 1/2 bara of Ivory soap

Grate the Ivory Soap. Add all the ingredients to a large pail with a tight lid. I used our old Sam’s laundry detergent pail. Shake to mix. I use 2 – 3 tablespoons for each load. Followed by 1/4 cup white vinegar in the rinse cycle love how fresh, clean and soft my clothes are.

Here is the math, to prove the savings.

We bought the 4lb (approx 12 cups) boxes of baking soda $1.87 and borax $2.67 at Wal-mart. (I have found a larger bag of baking soda at Sam’s for $5.42, I think it is 12lbs). The Ivory soap was 3 bars for .87 cents, which I used 1 bar of equaling .29 cents. We spent $4.83 total to make 26 cups of detergent. I use 2 tablespoons a load which comes out to about .02 cents a load. The Sam’s brand that I had been using was .05 cents a load!

Am I getting old or is it just my baby???

Yesterday my oldest turned 17.

How can it be seventeen years since the day they handed me that oh so tiny baby…. That everyone tried to tell me what huge… Nope she was sooo small and sooo helpless and I wasn’t ready to be a mom…. But when she smiled my heart melted and I knew I would walk through fire for her…  I had a lot to learn!

Yesterday as she enjoyed her steak, at her birthday dinner, and talked about how cute the waiter was…. I realized that she still can melt my heart with a simple smile and that I would still walk through fire for her… and that I have to learn something that is equally as hard as becoming a first time mom…. now I have to learn to let go….

Happy birthday Little One!!

Loss of Inocence

Last night my oldest daughter and a couple of her friends were discussing 9/11 and it turned into an argument, about politics, race and in part religion. Though all three of these kids claim the same beliefs as far as religion goes. They found out that one of them had a very different view on how to handle a person that didn’t either believe like you do or that as he put it “missed the boat 2000 years ago”.  It started out on a discussion about if our country chose the right course after 9/11, to what they believed the war is really about today, and went down hill from there...

It always surprises me how young, kids learn to say the right thing but when they are in the middle of an argument their true feelings come out. For my oldest it is hard to find out that someone she thought she knew well isn't someone she knew at all. Some truly ugly beliefs came out. Ones that I had hoped would have been lost to this younger generation. It was sad to hear the same old prejudices come out of a young man's mouth last night, which I had heard over and over as a kid. Finding out that a person can hate a group of people that he really didn’t know, but thinks he knows, was hard for my oldest to accept.  Especially when he made the comment that the sound of her name was not fitting to her looks or race, and that she needed to rethink changing her name.

I was proud of my oldest and her other friend for standing up for themselves and for what they believed in, when it was obvious that to save a friendship it would have been easier for them to either back down or to just change the subject. But they felt it was worth the risk, that just possibly they should try and help their friend to understand that you can’t judge a person by their race, the sound of their name, or by what they believe in. Especially when it comes to helping them be protected from others. That you can’t just stand by and watch someone hurt someone else and does nothing, just because you don’t like who is being hurt.

We Will Never Forget

This page is dedicated to the family and friends of those who are still fighting to making America great our wonderful men and women in uniform. Know that our prayers and thoughts are with you!

Amazing Grace

Word by John Newton Music by Edwin O. Excell

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
that saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
and grace my fears relieved;
how precious did that grace appear
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
'tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
and grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
his word my hope secures;
he will my shield and portion be,
as long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
a life of joy and peace.

When we've been there ten thousand years,
bright shining as the sun,
we've no less days to sing God's praise
than when we first begun.

God Bless America

Words and Music by Irving Berlin

While the storm clouds gather, Far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance, To a land that's free.
Let us all be grateful, For a land so fair,
As we raise our voices, In a solemn prayer.

GOD BLESS AMERICA, Land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her, Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam
GOD BLESS AMERICA My home sweet home.

GOD BLESS AMERICA, Land that I love,
Stand beside her and guide her, Thru the night with a light from above.
From the mountains to the prairies, to the oceans white with foam
GOD BLESS AMERICA My home sweet home,
GOD BLESS AMERICA My home sweet home.

.

God Bless the U.S.A.

Words and Music by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife
I'd thank my lucky stars
To be living here today
Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away
And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
But I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up

Next to you
And defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas
From sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston
And New York to L.A.
There's pride in every American heart
And it's time we stand and say

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up
Next to you
And defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt
I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me
And I gladly stand up

Next to you
And defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt

I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.
