Groan of the day: Why did the moon go to the bank? To get his first quarter…
OK today there will be no jokes, but before I talk about something very important, I will mention some funny stuff. In the last couple days, people have found my blog through web searches for how to pronounce Matt from RK's last name, what Matt's gf's name is, and if Matt is gay or not. I found that rather funny lol
Don't forget to stop by homeschoolblogger.com/Switchfoot!
The following has been signed by 2.4+ million people. I signed it yesterday. Please read it:
The ONE Declaration
WE BELIEVE that in the best American tradition of helping others help themselves, now is the time to join with other countries in a historic pact for compassion and justice to help the poorest people of the world overcome AIDS and extreme poverty.
WE RECOGNIZE that a pact including such measures as fair trade, debt relief, fighting corruption and directing additional resources for basic needs-education, health, clean water, food, and care for orphans-would transform the futures and hopes of an entire generation in the poorest countries, at a cost equal to just one percent more of the US budget.
WE COMMIT ourselves - one person, one voice, one vote at a time - to make a better, safer world for all.
I urge you all to sign that at ONE.org. It is very important that you do. The ONE campaign as it is called was started by U2's Bono to end extreme poverty and AIDS in our generation. This is a secular organization but is supported by Switchfoot, Jars of Clay, Skillet, Michael W. Smith, President Bush, World Vision, and other high profile Christians and Christian organizations.
ONE has gotten rich governments to donate billions of dollars to their cause. If the U.S. would donate 1% more of its budget ($25 billion) the problem could be fixed. We are that close! This is an unprecedented opportunity to end extreme poverty.
Don't think world poverty is a problem? In the time it took you to read the above entry, 30 people died from extreme poverty or AIDS. Every three seconds someone dies. And YOU can do nothing to end it. The wonderful thing is WE can put an end to the death. 2.4+ million of us have become ONE to end world poverty and AIDS. Together we are a strong political force that none can ignore. Will you please join us?
Go to ONE.org and sign the declaration. Let me know when you do.
