Apr. 23, 2008 - Curtain Rises on Egypt: Gift of the Nile
Beginning next week, Gabriella will be starting to work on lessons from the curriculum I will be buying her soon. They have 6 weeks worth of free samples on their website. The lessons are from the units: Go to Egypt and Sail to the New World. They offer 3 weeks worth of samples (full lessons) from each Unit. So we will begin with Go to Egypt and if we still haven't received our curriculum by then we will proceed with "Sail to the New World" and complete that before beginning what we've bought. I plan to go at her pace and there is just jam-packed things for her to do. I can't see us running out of things to do - we'd more likely run out of time in the day and have to continue with it the next day, know what I mean?
So I am excited. The curriculum is called Tapestry of Grace and it is a very hands on curriculum. The backbone of Tapestry are the books the children read. It does not contain textbooks or workbooks. Click the link for more information and to see samples!
Also, Benjamin and even Jeremiah in some parts, will be starting a Unit study on "Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See". We will make stick puppets, create our own story featuring "Benjamin, Benjamin, what do you see..", read about other bears: polar bears, black bears, grizzly bears, etc....,Well, you get the idea! For more ideas, click the link. The Unit study is FREE! If you come up with ideas of your own, be sure to share them!
I will try to blog as we go and take pics throughout the week. I really want to try and stay off the computer (since we ought to be REALLY busy LEARNING) for most the week, and perhaps share the fruit of our learning (pictures included) by the end of the week! :) So stay tuned......

Sounds wonderful, Christin. I've seen this curriculum title elsewhere and wondered about it. Sounds just perfect for your studies. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with it!
Did you find out what the other bird is in your area?
Grackles are quite exciting with that 'glow' that God gave them.......We've been on the look out for other feathered friends.

Brown bear is a great book to do with the littles! There are tons of ideas out there on the web.
We copied the pictures and put them on sticks also and then Andrew looked for the right picture to hold up when we read that page. You could also do it on a felt board and have them place up the pictures on a felt board as you read.
Have fun and I'll be stopping back to check on you at the end of the week.
Hang in there on the house!!
Love,
Theresa

Red Winged Black Bird, eh? Way to go Gabriella. Our kids sometimes know more than we give them credit for, oh I so know that!
I too like the glue lid idea for the paints. I didnt notice that before. Very cool!! Did you keep the lids once the glue was gone?
That 'Day of Silence' is sure thought provoking on many levels. Sad that we have to even think about doing something like that let alone actually doing it. You are correct, it all begins at home.

Hi Christin!! How awesome...and it's free!! It does sound like very hands on, and that is so YOU!! I can't wait to hear how it goes. Oh...and my kids LOVE that book (Brown bear, brown bear....). Anywho..I bet the kids are eating up your TV!!! I know that when my kids are able to watch it again, they will really appreciate it and savor every second. But, there are going to be major changes. No more TV at night (except maybe a DVD)! Oh....and your reply on my last post made me realize that yes, that was awesome that they ASKED them to play more songs. Last night was such a God moment! I mean, we were really prayed up before we went too!!! Anyway, my friend....you have a wonderful day and blessed weekend!!
