Well, we're bracing for Rita now....although it looks like it's going to Texas the exact location is still unknown. Since Baton Rouge is east of the path we're concerned about how close it comes in. Already I saw a projection that we could get 40-50 mph winds and lots of rain. The northeast side is the worst place to be....you saw that in Mississippi. My concern is the power grid...if we lose electricity, how long will it take for the already overworked teams to get it back on! I'm going later to get some more supplies, if I can find them. We need a new Wal Mart!
As far as supplies go, I think we're doing ok for now. The response has been unbelievable! Our church has a huge warehouse full of pallettes of food and personal items....it's being distributed all over the affected areas. We're working w/ other area churches so the needs are being met wherever they are found. In a couple of weeks we'll have a better picture of our needs as far as manpower goes. We have several teams here this week and next and the hangup at this point is a place for people to stay. A few groups have stayed in tents...95 degrees and fire ants...that's what I call dedication!!! I'm still in the volunteer coordinator's office so I'll keep a lookout for a good time. We still have 300 people in the shelter so there's still lots of hugs needed!! There are still thousands here that havent found places to stay until the can go back to New Orleans or wherever they want to live.
Well, Christen needs help with math so I need to run.
I love ya!!
