First, your question: Are you kids' notebooks something like 1" 3ring binders? Do they work for you or do you use something else?
Yes, we use 3-ring binders. We like to print out art prints that are 8 1/2 X 11 size to collect. There are also great prints in the art print/framing section of most stores. Those are easily added to our 3-ring binders.
I have several friends who have loved postcard size prints. Those are very nice for little hands. Of course, they are not as easy to see the details in the prints as larger prints (or the REAL THING! GRIN). The 8 1/2 X 11 size has just been more along the lines of what we were looking for in our studies. There is not any one way to do it. If you would like something smaller for those little hands, you could always invest in the postcard size (and you can print from your computer that size too) and keep those in cute little photo albums/scrapbooks that are bit more cuddly. That would be a great idea for others who want a smaller size for little hands!
Next, your question: Also, how do you store all these binders so everyone knows where his or hers is?
We have always stored our binders on a shelf for each child. Each child keeps their own things together for their lessons. They are responsible for making sure that their things are put away each day. We began this very young and it helped sooo much to make things easy to do and easy to move on to other aspects of our family life--like dinner on the same table that they do their lessons! WINK!
Of course, they know which ones are theirs. We choose the binders that allow for them to each design their own covers. They make them very personal. It has been such fun through the years! Now, they have continued the same disciplines into their personal lives. They have tons of binders in their rooms on topics of personal interests. Of course, both of our children have been hooked on writing, so they both have much more than the typical student would collect through the years. It is wonderful to see what great training ground this discipline can be for young writers!
