Destination Disney - Outside the Parks

Today's Destination Disney, and the last one ( sniff, sniff - see Jennifer's post) is talking about place to go when your not doing Disney.

Is there anything else beyond Disney World? Yes!

Since we live outside of the Orlando area, we have been to quiet a few places beyond the park. Of course there is SeaWorld and Universal, but there a couple places that are worth a drive away from the mouse.

Wordspring Discovery Center - is the place to discover the amazing story of the Bible. Encounter people, languages, and cultures you’ve never seen before. It’s about the art and science of translation. It’s about how God’s Word carries hope around the world to people in their own language. It’s an interactive cultural adventure! Discover how the Bible was preserved and shared throughout history.

My princesses and I have been here quiet a few times. I'm still in awe of how many languages STILL don't have God's word translated yet. This place is a great place to stir your heart to pray for these people and for God's word to spread. They often have special happenings going on. We love to go around Christmas time when they are doing Christmas around the world.

A place hidden in a beautiful part of Orlando is the Leu Gardens -

Harry P. Leu Gardens features three miles of paved scenic walkways that take you through fifty acres of southern styled gardens including:

  • America's largest Camellia collection outside California

  • Three acres of idea gardens for weekend projects

  • The largest formal rose garden in Florida.

  • A house museum dating from the 1880's.

  • Two acre Tropical Stream Garden

  • Vegetable and Herb Garden

  • Butterfly Garden

  • Palm, bamboo and cycad gardens

We took my mom there when she was visiting and had a great time. There's A LOT of shade and it's great place to just take a break and take in all of God's amazing beauty.

So from a local girl, there are my tips for things to do outside the parks.

Thanks Jennifer for hosting Destination Disney. It was a lot of fun while it lasted.

"Mom, Take us to New Jersey"

I never thought I would hear those words. But when my girls found out about the VERY cool Radio Disney concert that was happening, New Jersey became the place to spend the summer.

This concert seems to be the Thing to Do in New Jersey this summer. A lot of the Top Disney artists are going to be at the VERY COOL Morey's Piers! We listen to Radio Disney when we can. The music is alright from a mom's stand point, but my girls really enjoy it. Disney has a great way of getting pretty clean cut kids out into the mainstream of music and having their own radio show helps out a lot. Here are some of the happenings that are going on in New Jersey in July:(if gas wasn't so high priced and I could afford to stay at Jersey Shore hotels- this would be pretty cool to go to)

-July 7th, 14th and 21st - Magic Mondays - Radio Disney’s hottest musical artists will appear live on Morey’s Piers. These FREE concerts will take place at the Radio Disney stage next to the Giant Ferris Wheel on Morey’s Mariner’s Landing pier. Show times are scheduled for 1 pm and 4 pm.
-The Radio Disney Summer Concert Series finale is scheduled for 2 pm Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Wildwoods Convention Center Oceanfront Arena with Raven-Symone from Disney Channel’s “That’s so Raven” and the currently showing Walt Disney movie, “College Road Trip” starring Martin Lawrence and Raven-Symone. The July 26th concert will also feature Mitchell Musso from the “Hannah Montana Show”.
-July 26th Concert ticket holders may enjoy super savings at Morey’s Piers from the time of purchase through July 27, 2008. Simply show your official July 26 Radio Disney Summer Concert Series finale ticket at Guest Services on Mariner’s Landing and receive $10 off an all-day waterpark ticket for either Raging Waters or Ocean Oasis, or $10 off an amusement pier wristband valid for all three of Morey’s Piers, or $15 off a one-day splash and ride combination ticket.

Did I mention this concert was FREE!! Even more exciting!! So if you have friends that live close by and their looking for Things to Do in New Jersey, tell them about this concert. Hey, if you go.. send me some pictures so I can show my girls... LOL

Destinatin Disney - Disney 4 Adults

Oops. I missed this past Friday's Destination Disney. But I'll go ahead and put my two cents in a couple days late.

This weeks topic is Disney for Adults.

Yes, Disney can be TONS of fun for Adults.

But I have to put a warning up first. There is one thing that you MUST do before trying to enter any of the Disney parks minus the kids. You HAVE to leave the 'guilt' on the monorail. LOL.

What I mean is this. The first time my DH and I ventured in doing anything by ourselves at Disney, I did have a little guilt. I kept thinking if something 'magical' or Disney'esque was going to happen and if my kids missed it .. they would be sooo bummed.

Leave the guilt on the monorail. Your kids won't miss out on anything because you'll be doing stuff they probably wouldn't enjoy anyways.. AND you don't have to tell them EVERYTHING you did. LOL.

On with my Disney for Adults.

I have two versions. My first being Disney with your Mate.

Before we moved to FL, we came to Disney for vacations. On one of our trips we decide to splurge and let our girls go to the Neverland Club at the Poly Hotel. Since this is about ADULT time, I won't speak much about that - but let's just say, my girls had a BLAST there!

While our girls were pigging out on Mac and Cheese, watching Disney movies, and playing video games, my DH and I headed over to Epcot for a night out.

This was GREAT. No stopping at the Kidcot stations, just walking around the World Showcase enjoying each other's company and taking in all the sites. We were able to stop and admire all the beautiful flowers and the amazing attention to detail in each country. We snacked our way around the world and tried different drinks when we got thirsty.

My second version is with a friend. One of my dear friends and I took a 'girls' day and spent it at Epcot. We strolled around, got coffee and sweets in France. Egg rolls in China, and split a Margaritta in Mexico. Also on that day, we walked over to the Boardwalk and Beach and Yacht Club hotels. We rocked on rocking chairs and dipped our toes in the pool.

Epcot is a GREAT place to do Disney Adult style. There's so much that you can take in and really enjoy at a slower pace.

Instead of eating at one place - snack your way around the world! This is a lot of fun and you can try out different foods and drinks.

Disney is a great place for families. But as you can see, you can enjoy it as an Adult too!

Destination Disney - Hotels and Resorts

Today's Destination Disney is Hotels and Resorts.

I have A LOT of Disney knowledge on The All Star Resorts and some knowledge on the Coronado. All of the other resorts I have basically visited, eww and awed over, probably actually drooled over, and coveted staying at, but never actually laid my head down in one.

Now since we live only an hour of way from the front gates of Disney, we go there quiet often, but we've only stayed there a few times.

First off and probably most important! If I had the choice of spending A LOT of money on a hotel verses spending it on or in the Disney parks, I would DEFINITELY spend it at the parks.  Especially if it's your first time. You spend most of your time at the parks anyways and the resorts just become a place to lay your head at night.

When staying at Disney there's always a given. NO MATTER where you stay it's going to be pretty nice. Disney does NOTHING lack luster and all their hotels have something to bring a smile to your face.

I'll break it down this way.
For families with little ones
( big kids like this too)
I suggest the ALL STAR hotels. They are all themed hotels - Movies (My particular favorite), Music, and Sports.  These resorts are a lot of fun to stay out. Your surrounded by all kinds of great memorabilia of Disney stuff and it's very family friendly.

Awhile back we decided to splurge a little and stay at the Coronado Resort. It was a 'nice' resort to stay at but I was let down with the choices of where to eat.

I love how the All Star resorts have a central Food Court that always has a TON of options for the family to choose from. When we stayed at the Coronado we actually drove over to the All Star Movies to eat one day so we could just hang out there.

The pools aren't as exciting as the more expensive resorts but they are in fun shapes AND their heated year round.

The rooms are themed too and depending on which All Star you stay out, you'll have different comforters, light boxes and other fun stuff in your room.

For Families that want Luxury verses Fun:
The hotels that I like to gawk at our the Wilderness Lodge, The Beach and Yacht Club, and the Animal Kingdom. These hotels are truly BEAUTIFUL and if I never had to worry about money , I would stay in any one of these.

A fun, non expensive way, to experience these resorts is to visit during Christmas time. Starting the day after Thanksgiving, Disney  goes all out decorating their hotels.  Just about every year, our family takes a day and parks at the Boardwalk hotel ( you just tell the security that your there to see the decorations) and we spend the day checking out all the great decorations. Carousels made out of chocolate, beautiful Christmas trees made out of pointsetta's. Just breathtaking.

And don't leave the Beach and Yacht club without stopping by the Ice Cream parlor and ordering up the Kitchen Sink for the family. YUMO!!  I'll tell you more about that another time.
