May. 31, 2005 - Thoughts on Blogging

Does anyone read the archives section of a blog? What kind of "hook" does it take to get you to go through someone's old entries? And what are you more likely to read - a short entry or a long one?

Absolutely, a short entry.

Honesty, faith and humor have me coming back for more or searching the archives.

Taking into consideration the amount of time it takes to read blogs, I try to keep my posts on the short side. If the subject is intense and of extreme interest I will linger a little longer on a blog to read the entire entry; otherwise, I might scan read. I have delved into other's archives for outside links that I took notice of on a prior visit.

I read the archives when I want to find out more about the blogger or about the subject he/she is discussing.

When I read a blog entry - long or short, doesn't matter - if the blogger is witty, passionate, and/or simply fascinating :-) I often read the archives, to learn more about their opinions, convictions, and the like. I often recommend blogs to friends, and add links to any one of my sites, and I like to know as much about a blogger as I can, before I do that.

So there ya go. :-)

Definitely short posts tend to be the only ones I have the time to read. There are so many blogs that I like!

I only read the archived posts that have the title displayed if I see a title of interest.

Great blog!

And what makes me dig into someone's archives?

Excellent writing. Wisdom I can use in my life. Insight that makes the soles of my feet tingle.

But mostly...excellent writing.

And the number of blogs that I've read the last 6 months that inspired me to go back into the archives? Out of hundreds read, I'd say I looked into the archives of less than 10.

About Me

Here I am with Patrick Healy and Anthony Kearns (of Three Tenors fame), after an impromptu serenade. "Happy Birthday" sung by Anthony Kearns... it doesn't get much better than that!
