I've gotta be the worst friend in the entire world. Here I have had this book on my nightstand FOREVER and have NOT sat down to review it for Gena ... I hope she can forgive me for my late review! I know that I certainly did NOT expect to see me and my husband mentioned on the Acknowledgements page, but there we are. I am so humbled to find our names on a list which includes so many of the Suarez' longtime friends.
Homeschooling Methods was a work of love by Paul and Gena Suarez. They wanted to compile into ONE concise book all the information that a new or veteran homeschooling parent would need to help them find the best method for teaching their children. The Suarez' realize that no two children are created equal and this it is very important to suit the curriculum to the child instead of the other way around. ALL author proceeds from the sale of this book are being donated to NATHHAN, an organization that serves families of special needs children across America. As the parent of two children with special needs, I am so touched by the generosity of Paul and Gena in this matter.
There are some very recognizable contributors to this book .... Ruth Beechick, Christine Field, Diana Waring, Christine Miller, the Moores and Sally Clarkson to name a few. There are 10 homeschooling methods/learning styles discussed in this book by experts in each specific method. These methods include the following:
Classical Education - Douglas Wilson and Christine Miller
Principle Approach - Katherine Dang and James Rose
Traditional Textbook - Jen Igarashi/Dr. Heather Allen and Jennifer Pepito
Charlotte Mason - Catherine Levison
Unit Study - Jessica Hulcy and Jennifer Steward
Special Needs - Christine Field and Sherry Bushnell
Carschooling - Diane Flynn Keith
Eclectic - Maggie Hogan and Diana Waring
Unschooling/Delight-Directed - the Moores and Mary Hood
Whole-Heart Learning - Ruth Beechick and the Clarksons
Because this book is broken down by style, it is easy to read in bits and pieces. If you read about one approach each day, it would only take you 10 days to read the book! I am an eclectic homeschooler with a bent towards Classical and Charlotte Mason methods, so I found LOTS of useful information in this book - LOL! I think that most homeschoolers take bits and pieces of various teaching methods to use in their homeschools. This book is under $10 at Amazon.com and would make a great gift for that newbie homeschooler or maybe the veteran who is struggling with finding the best teaching method for her children. Are you needing to be refreshed ... are you struggling with burnout? Then maybe you should buy Homeschooling Methods and put it on YOUR summer reading list ... I do not think that you will regret the purchase!

I'm a bad friend too! I've already read it and LOVED it! I sure wish I had this a few years ago when I was first starting out. I would definitely recommend this valuable resource to all old and new homeschoolers.
If you think about it, can you ask me later this week if I've written my review yet? :-)
Love,
Marsha

That is a very very generous offer from Gena and her family/staff. I have a special needs dd and two other children with learning issues. I am also a member of NATTHAN which has been a tremendous help to me.
