This is my last Language Arts review! My 6th grade daughter's handwriting has gotten really, really messy over the last few years and I'm just not content to let it slide! I really didn't want to start all over again with an intensive handwriting program. I've always liked the look of Italics and so I went searching online for a program to help her with the "messies."
I didn't want to spend a lot of money and was blessed to find Penny Gardner's Italics program for children. Being someone who is partial to Charlotte Mason methods, I had already read Ms. Gardner's books. I just didn't know that she had written a handwriting program! There is a lot of information about this product at the link above, so be sure to visit her site!
From her website:
Italics, Beautiful Handwriting for Children "You'll find this program very helpful in teaching italic penmanship within a Charlotte Mason framework. It is not necessary to have a penmanship workbook for every grade level--this book covers it all. Once a child has learned basic italics, he does meaningful copy work for more practice. After some time, hell be ready to learn cursive italics. Copy work and dictation will provide the practice."
This workbook contains BOTH print and cursive instruction and the book only costs $11.00 postage paid! I even bought a book for myself because it's only $6.00 and shipping was a flat $5.00 fee! Did I mention that my handwriting is almost as bad as my daughter's? It seems that the ability for me to write neatly was overtaken by the desire to write quickly once I had to take kiddos to the store with me
!
There are lots and lots of practice activities. My daughter likes to copy the pages to practice and then write her BEST handwriting in the book. I'm hoping that by the end of the year, we BOTH will be writing a lot neater!

Hi, Kris. I really enjoy your reviews. I've been looking at Getty-Dubay Italics, but thought I'd check your sidebar to see if you'd reviewed it, and found this. Can you tell me if one book would be sufficient for three children? Are the pages able to be copied, or is it copyright protected? Thank you, and thank you for all the hard work you put into reviewing products. I, for one, really appreciate it.
