I hated learning about History when I was in school .... too many dates, uninteresting facts and people to remember for test time. Now, as a homeschooling parent, I can't get enough of History! It is soooooo interesting to me and I look forward to our time together reading about the past. I believe that I first read about Learning Through History magazine at The Well-Trained Mind boards. I'm a sucker for a good magazine for kids!

To give you an idea of what is in each magazine, check out the Table of Contents for the current issue on Colonial America. If you scroll all the way down, you will see a Early Learning Unit - this is for preschoolers so that even THEY can join in your studies. Basically, this magazine is like having a unit study in hand! The articles are divided out by Reading Level so that you can be teaching the same topic to all of your children, no matter their age. Currently, there is NO advertising in the magazine except for inside the back cover. Each article has black & white illustrations which you can copy and have your children color if you wish. There are craft ideas and recipes in most issues, too. In the sidebars of every article are lists of recommended books/videos to read to further your study of the topic, discussion & essay questions, and online websites to visit for more information.
When I placed my subscription order, I went ahead and purchased ALL of the back issues and I don't regret that a bit. This magazine is geared for ages 7 and up (excluding the preschool unit). You can always purchase a single issue to see if this is a resource that you want in your home. We used our Medieval and Renaissance issues last semester and there was information in there that wasn't ANYWHERE else in the books that we were reading! These magazines would be great for short summer studies or just when mom needs to take a breather from the normal routine. Check them out and see if this is a product that would add to your history studies!
DISCLAIMER: I am in no way affiliated with this company - However, I emailed LTH magazine to let them know I had reviewed their product and they said that they'd extend my own subscription by one issue for people I referred to them. I thought that that was very nice of them. If you decide to subscribe based on my review, would you put Kris Price in the "Where did you hear about us?" box on the subscription page? I'd really appreciate it!
