Notes from the Laundry Pile

Sep. 4, 2006 - Today was the First day....

Of school. I honestly don't know if it was a good thing or not. (I know I had that thought of "Is it too late to enroll them in school somewhere?")

My plan was to take the kids to the "Breakfast Store" (aka Panera) to talk about Orderliness. Orderliness is our first KONOS unit to tackle. The announcement of "We're going to...." was met with instant rejection. "I don't like the breakfast store" was G's response. Daddy jumped to my rescue by pointing out that he was being rude and had never been to the breakfast store.

It boiled down to the fact that he wouldn't get a toy at the breakfast store - like he would at McD's. *sigh* We all have to have priorities.  Since it was apparent they wouldn't eat at Panera, I decided to switch my plans and we went down the street to McD's. (It was closer, too.)

I wasn't expecting the response I got when I pulled into a parking space - "You mean we're getting out? Why aren't we going through the drive-thru?" I though they'd be overjoyed to be going in. Such was not the case. Another sigh from Me..I'm starting to feel a little frayed around the cuffs here... I am prepped with the "All About Me" page from Dandelionseeds and so we sit down. We talk about orderliness - and how everything has to be in its place. We point out things in the restaurant that are in their places, etc.  I'm honestly not sure what they got out of it - except that everything has a home.

We get home - and J-man is going bonkers (He was broken hearted to have been left behind, thanks to a misplaced word from G.) Mini-E is having a bad day. So is daddy (apparently J got him up in the wee hours of the morning).

I dispense paper work while Daddy tries to entertain the J-man. It doesn't work quite right. All in all, I find myself wondering if I'm going to be able to juggle a toddler type tornado (he thinks he's a big kid), a baby and two schoolers with occasional attitudes.

I got to hear Beth Moore deliver God's message to OKC. "You don't trust me in this" that billboard sized sign was just for me. It was for my homeschooling. I wondered what it was that I didn't trust Him for - and apparently, I think God's nuts. Why would He pick the most sanguine, easily amused, easily distracted (ooo shiney!! what does this button do?) to homeschool 4 kids in 4 different age groups?? So that's my area of distrust - I don't trust that He's wiser than my inadequacies.

Our first day of school was not stellar - but it's done and over with.

Sep. 1, 2006 - City Kids

Good Morning!!!

I tried on a whim to log in and I made it!

Now I've forgotten what it was I wanted to say.

Oh - I did amuse myself and that should always be jotted down somewhere.

Tuesday morning our plans got shifted slightly, so we went to WalMart. We got there early because we were all up and dressed. We hit McD's for B-fast (a treat for the kids) and off we went.

Got all the kids out of the van and we were walking toward the door. What to my delighted eyes did I see?? I hollered in glee "Look! The first jackets of spring! I mean fall..." The two kids looked at me like I was a complete loony toon and the mom just grinned.

I felt silly for messing up my seasons - but I was so tickled that someone actually had to wear a jacket!!  I went walking this morning and the bank's marquee read 68 degrees.

*sigh* 68 degrees. It's so much nicer than 90 or above at 7 am.

And this is where I think the world revolves around me - because the weather change happened so suddenly that I consider it a blessing from God to me. *LOL* The kids have been outside to ride bikes and play... except for yesterday.

Yesterday. Omigosh. Yesterday came the realization that I'm raising city kids. I was raised in a "town". So could I get a spiritual lesson from it? Because I was raised in a town - and now so are the kids - and they are many times worse than I ever was...so spiritually: I was raised a christian, and now my kids are even more so. Hmmm....I think I like these odds.

Okay - my city kids: Came running inside from where I'd shoved them outside (It was lovely out - they were bouncing off my headache inside). There's a wasp flying around.

I can not adequately express the stress in their voices. I don't remember my question ... but their answer was "Well, it landed in the grass".  So it probably needed a drink of water from the dew. I sent them back outside with the wise words of "that they were not grass and that the wasp was just looking for water. And should it land on the grass to STEP ON IT!!'

They went out side. But they didn't get far.

They sat on the patio.

It's funny today - but I don't have a headache either. *LOL*

Aug. 24, 2006 - Promotions

There was much cheering tonight when Hubby returned home to the Laundry Pile. He got a promotion!! We give glory and honor - knowing full well that promtions come from Above.

So we talked with the kids about what promotions mean. (Especially since I was cheering in the laundry room and they wanted to know what was going on.) So we explained that promotion means: Being raised from one level to a higher level.

Mini Me thought about this and let us talk for a bit before asking a very logical question. She asked if he was going to get harder work. Harder buildings to design.

I'm thinking, "Wow, Mini-Me, that's a very logical question!" So Daddy told her that, yes, he probably would be assigned harder jobs. MiniMe proceeds to share with us her thinking.

"Well, in my video games, when I get to a new level - it  is harder than the level before. So I just wondered if it was the same."

Wow. Here I was thinking she was working on her hand/eye coordination (and time with daddy) with those games. Not lifeskills.

I am highly amused and cheering resumes in the Laundry Pile.

Aug. 23, 2006 - Wednesday Wrap Up

Today has been a good day. Not overly productive as far as house hold stuff goes - but a good day nonetheless.

It rained! It was quite a hoot - I thought it sounded like rain and asked the big kids (who were sitting by the back door) if it was raining or no. They looked at me like I was nuts. It was, indeed, raining.

My 2 year old, J-man, has a new word. Or series of words. It came about in a disconcerting way, I have to add. I was about to take a shower. Please don't picture this - but I seriously was one toe in the water when my 7yr old (Mini-Me) came barging in.

Should I answer it? She wants to know.

Just let the machine get it. Is my reply - thinking she meant the phone.

"No" - I thought she said "yours" - "do you want me to get yours?" Which made me think of my cell phone. So I said (sort of ) "I guess you can answer it if you can find it." It's amazing the "You're an idiot, mom" look a 7year old can give.

"No - the door bell rang do you want me to answer it"

Standing one toe into the shower - I said (very emphatically) "NO, I don't. Though you can go look out (just in case it was my mom surprising us) and see who it was. Maybe it was the "Box Man" bringing daddy's tin punches"

So off she darts. I scramble back into my clothes. Fastest 3 secs ever. new record. To find her laughing - and J-man (who's 2) saying "Bah Man" and carrying around a box. Mini-me informs me that J already answered the door and retrieved the box.

So I can note several things. 1) I can NOT hear the doorbell when I'm one toe into the shower. 2) I'm glad it was jehovah's witnesses 3) I need a latch for the front door 4) we apparently get lots of boxes in the mail because J knows who the "Bah Man" is.  (He can also say "Bubbah Baa")

Oh - the other thing that happened today that I need to write down (Typing is really faster than writing). I had the kids clean off the table to prep for dinner. My G, who is now 6 (and loving it) starting singing "Mustard and Ketchup go in the fridge

Mustard and ketchup go in the fridge

Mustard and ketchup go in the fridge.

Then my favorite line is something about the fact that we can't live without them. I really wish we had a vid camera for such a moment. He sang a song the day before yesterday about Jesus is the Lord. He sang it so sweetly - but it was the head bopping that amused me. I wished I could have recorded it.

Now I know that the new schedule coming up will be me getting up before hubby leaves the Laundry Pile for working in the real world, in order to take a shower, just in case the "Bah Man" comes unexpectedly.

Really - what other time does the box man come?

Aug. 23, 2006 - Today was Blogday - instead of Wednesday

I had fun playing around with this blog system. I had nothing planned for the day anyway - but it does take a long time to load. I mentioned to ThoughtfulMom that I was glad I wasn't using "dial-up" anymore.

I do like being surrounded by homeschoolers (my other test blog was not anywhere close). It's been a thrill to meet some KONOS moms. Especially since It's our first year to try KONOS. So -- Howdy Ya'll!!

I admith that I'm easily amused. I like all the colors of the blogs.

That "Random Blog" button could very well be addictive. I find myself pushing the button just to see what the next blog will look like. For instance, dad2three has a kickin' website that he's obviously had to really work on and tweak the code to accomplish his look. It looks good on him and being the easily amused soul that I am - love his kid code and wife code.

So I've been popping around blogger world and visiting blogs. I've posted a few comments on some - because it's fun but I do wonder about those codes you have to type in when you post a comment. They're very pretty - but if you're color blind, can you still read them? That's a tiny glimpse into my brain. I still type them in - because it's obvious that if I don't, my comment might not get "published". They still remind me of that eye test you have to take when you get your driver's license.

I think I'll blog next time about the near-panic I had when I realized that school starts in just over a week. See? That's a good sign! I'm plotting my next blog entry. Tee Hee .....

Aug. 23, 2006 - The Laundry Pile Cat

The cat of our laundry pile is, by name, Maggie. Or as Hubby calls her "Maggie The Cat" or "Miss Maggie". But, when you stop to listen, he calls everyone "Miss" - at least everyone that's a female. (I'm waiting for him to slip up and call me "Miss" - what a chat we'll have. )

So our Maggie the cat - frankly loves laundry. And why wouldn't she? She's a black cat. She sheds. So, of course, she loves laundry. She sleeps under the bed - or on my feet. She used to sleep under the covers - but she kept getting kicked.

Maggie really is just like a fuzzy child. She sits by the door awaiting my return ... if I'm gone for more than a little while, she roams the house mewing forelornly. It's really nice having a fuzzy thing to pet when I'm feeling down. But not so great when you're trying to study and she decides she needs attention. She's an average size cat - but can lay in just such a way as to cover your Bible and your Bible Study notes all at once.  So if you're ever in a Bible Study with me - and there's cat hair in my books - you know why.

So that's the introduction to our Maggie the cat...I'd insert a picture - but I'm not sure how....when I figure it out - I'll show you. But, I"m honest enough to admit - that when you've seen one black cat with golden eyes - you've seen them all.

About Me
There are four kids here in the laundry pile, often times, playing king of the hill. Which amuses me - because I am the supreme high ruler of this laundry! *Looking around* ... There's also 1 hubby and a cat in here somewhere....
