FIMM has decided to continue his martial arts training.  He was pretty good when he was a kid, but it had been a while.  Spying a beautiful girl, FIMM thought he might impress her.

FIMM: "Hi.  I'm just coming back to martial arts.  I'm already a brown belt, but it shouldn't take me too long to get my black belt.  I used to compete in the circuit.  I have about a hundred trophies.  Most of them for 1st place.  How long have you been taking Karate?"

Pretty Girl: "I've been studying karate since I was about 7 years old."

FIMM: "Yeah. I started young too, but I had to stop.  Too busy in my career.  Do you compete?"

Pretty Girl: "Yes. I do."

FIMM: "If you need any pointers, just let me know.  You pick up a few things here and there.  Oh...I'm sorry, I'm FIMM.  I've been doing martial arts on and off for about 8 years."

Pretty Girl: (as she finishes tying her black belt).  "I'm Sensei Jada Ryan. U.S. National Champion.  Welcome to my dojo!"

Very smooth FIMM!

Oh yes, but had he been actively listening, he might have noticed his mistake before he got his foot too entrenched in his mouth.

Many times we talk without noticing others body language, facial expressions...what color their belt is that they are tying around their waist!!! ROFL I teach my students to notice things as they speak so that they can change their approach if need be. It's best to know your audience in order to better relate to them, but many times you can't. One great way to get to know your audience is active listening!

Poor FIMM, he means well. He is just unaware of vital communication skills.

I guess he forgot Proverbs 27:2 2 "Let another man praise thee, and not thine own mouth; a stranger, and not thine own lips."

Oh yes that too, Karen! FIMM forgets lots of things!

You know the Bible doesn't speak of every subject, but the things the Lord does speak of in His Word we should pay heed to. That is why I am always amazed that communication skills are thought of as an elective rather than a core subject.

How many times does the Bible speak of the importance of math? Did you know that there are hundreds of references to how we should communicate with each other in the Bible?

About Me

I was raised by two Atheists of Jewish heritage, married a non practicing Catholic and became a non denominational Christian due, in part, to some Amway meetings and a Jehovah's Witness who came to my door. My purple crayon writes with humor and almost always a little out of the lines. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This blog is my creative and fun way of sharing my thoughts on communication skills relating mostly to sharing and defending the faith. It also reveals a bit about how the Lord took this shy Agnostic girl and allowed her to find her voice and her purpose, a zany voice to the Christian community with insight as to what unbelievers need to hear about Christ Jesus. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DON'T MISS: Tuesday Tips, Misadventures of Foot in Mouth Man, Friday Funnies, Defending the Faith SONdays ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For more creative fun with JoJo you can visit www.ArtofEloquence.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." -Proverbs 25:11
