How should Christians react?
It doesn't surprise me that a
band would choose Satanic hype in order to rally fans and sell
records. It shouldn't surprise any Christian. It's been
going on for decades with Heavy Metal music. These are lost
souls. Ignorant of the truth. Caught up in things
that, for the most part, they don't fully understand. As Christ
said so long ago: "They know not what they do." It is truly
sad.
I do often wonder if they honestly believe the
trash they spout or if it is just a way to build a fan base.
Either way, it doesn't lead me or my children away from Christ because
we know the truth. It does, however, lead some teens further away
from the Lord. These are usually children with little or no
foundation in Christ Jesus and that is also very sad.
I
subscribe to Google Alerts and I watch for Christian news.
Recently one lead me to a blog about the Christian reaction to Slayer's
new album due out in August called Christ Illusion. Its cover
depicts Christ with amputated limbs in a sea of severed heads.
What a lovely picture! Honestly, it looks like an angry child
drew it! I have read the words to some of the "songs" and it
reads like the rantings of a child.
Most of the
responses to the blog entry were as you might expect: primarily the
illiteration of young teens cheering Slayer on using foul language and
very little intellect. But one entry caught my eye. It said
something to the effect of "Burn in hell, Slayer!" Lovelier
still!
Does the Lord really want Slayer to burn in
hell? No, He wants them to come to Him! Would you come to
someone who's followers told you to "burn in hell"?
God
doesn't want any of His children to perish, but wants all to come to
Him and be saved. That's the message we need to share with non
Christians. When the Lord deems it time, He will come to judge,
but right now there is still time to share God's love and grace and
mercy with the lost. Condemnation will not turn a soul's ear
toward Christ. I will lead it further away. So that person
who posted "burn in hell" is actually enabling Satan through Slayer to
lead others away from the saving grace of Christ Jesus.
We are called upon to share the Good News of Jesus Christ and that cannot be done in anger.
