Just in case you think communication skills are not a CORE subject!
Several items in the news recently illustrated why communication skills are so vital for Christians today. One was the video
I told you about today where the representative from the Kansas church
told viewers on Hannity and Combs that these little Amish girls
deserved to die because they were sinners. She has her doctrine
wrong (God wasn't angry at these little girls and punished them for
their sins. God gave each man free will and one of them chose to
do evil!) however if she truly believed that the Lord is angry and we
must repent, it would have been much more effective if she had
communicated with grace out of love and respect for these people!
As it stands now, she didn't effectively communicate her
position. All she succeeded in doing is effectively communciating
that she calls herself a Christian and spews hate at people who are
already in pain over a tragedy that occurred.
Another
item in the news is that the oldest Amish girl and her sister both
asked the gunman to shoot them first in order to give more time to the
other girls so that they might escape. And how the Amish
community is getting through this ordeal in love and grace by forgiving
this man for his actions as God would have us forgive because he
forgives us our own sins. These are true communicators for
Christ!!
Communication skills are vital for Christians
today in order to be an effective witness for Christ Jesus because it
isn't as much WHAT you say, it is almost all in HOW you say it.
God tells us to communicate in grace and with respect all throughout
His Word:
“But
sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an
answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you
with meekness and fear.” -1Peter 3:15
In
other recent news, research is showing that communication skills are
seriously lacking in school children and in the work place.
In an article called Teenagers 'lack basic communication skills' teens in the UK are graduating without the proper tools for success in their careers.
"HUNDREDS
of children in Peterborough are leaving school with no qualifications
or job prospects every year because of their poor communication skills."
"A
new report shows that almost 400 school leavers across Cambridgeshire
have major problems finding work because they lack basic conversation
and listening skills."
The Winchester Star in Virginia reported that "the
director of education for the YMCA in Bloomington, Ill., observed that
many of the teenage boys who frequented the facility lacked
communication skills." And recent research shows that a
lack of effective communication skills can cause children to become
frustrated and angry increasing violence among teens and even
adults.
Communication skills are vitally important for
our children but many children either fear or dread taking a
traditional speech class. That is why Art of Eloquence began
teaching communication skills with humor.
Communication skills; thier not just for Lawyers anymore!
