MailBag Monday: Election Phone Callers

Posted in MailBag Mondays
Ahhhnold used to call me several times during every election before I moved.  The first time I answered the phone I was stunned.  It was actually Arnold Schwartzenegger's voice!  Ok it was recorded!  But it did keep me listening on the phone.  I mean, how often can you say that a celebrity and your Governor calls you on the phone to discuss the issues?

We now live in a brand new community.  Although we have received a TON of junk mail on the election, we have not received ONE phone call.  I may have forgotten to mail Ahhhnold my new address and phone number!

However, our MailBag shows that these calls are not always well-received.  Many of them go like this:

(Sally is on the phone long distance with her sister when her call waiting beeps in...)

"Please hold for an important election message!"

CLICK!

"Sorry, Mary.  That's the 8th automated phone call I've gotten about the elections today!"

Techonology allows us the freedom to communicate to a greater number of people, but many times it lacks the personal touch.  How important was that personal touch for Sally?  Many of these phone calls are a waste of time and money.  Sally didn't even listen long enough to find out which candidate or issue was the subject of the call!  It isn't the quantity of communication that matters...it's the quality!

How many election calls have you received in the last two weeks?  Weigh in!

Nov. 7, 2006 - Hi JoJo

Well, I received one, only one call. The call was from a very sweet fellow homeschool graduate who is working the polls. The call did not lack the personal touch but pressure to commit and help with yet *another* good cause was placed upon me, to help work the polls. I have a VERY hard time saying no. I just couldn't add another thing *to do* onto my already long, long, long, long (did I mention long? LOL =0) list of good things to do. She said she thought I would have the time since we *homeschool* LOL Need I say anymore or even mention what was going through my mind at that point?
Have a very happy day!

About Me

I was raised by two Atheists of Jewish heritage, married a non practicing Catholic and became a non denominational Christian due, in part, to some Amway meetings and a Jehovah's Witness who came to my door. My purple crayon writes with humor and almost always a little out of the lines. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This blog is my creative and fun way of sharing my thoughts on communication skills relating mostly to homeschooling and sharing and defending the faith. It also reveals a bit about how the Lord took this shy Agnostic girl and allowed her to find her voice and her purpose, a zany voice to the Christian community with insight as to what unbelievers need to hear about Christ Jesus. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DON'T MISS: Tuesday Tips, Misadventures of Foot in Mouth Man, Friday Funnies, Defending the Faith SONdays ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For more creative fun with JoJo you can visit www.ArtofEloquence.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." -Proverbs 25:11
