I missed my hug!
Every week at church, Pastor Dennis asks us to turn around and meet someone new before we sit back down for service. My dd does what we have termed a Kelseyism (humor Kelsey style) and gives me a hug. She has done it practically all the time she has been coming to the sanctuary since she was a preteen. Yesterday I didn't get my hug and I just started to cry. I don't know why it hit me so hard this week except that in just a few months she will be leaving to spend the next 7 years 3000 miles away at college.
Just sitting there at church after I didn't get that hug, I realized how special she is and how I have treasured her these past 18 years. I don't want to give that up. Even though I know it is what the Lord has for her to do. She was born a lawyer. Debate is in her blood. She has been arguing since she was 2! Her heart is to support our military as a Judge Advocate General (Military Lawyer) and I know that is very competative. An Ivy Leage or Elite college is her best shot. Most of them are back east. I know she will do well but I have been having a harder time of it than I thought I would.
Not getting that hug today, and for the next 7years (or possibly longer if she moves out of state permanently) was more than I could handle today. But God is gracious. He gave me a son who is 9 years her junior. I have him for at least 10 more years! And he is another precious gift from God for as I was typing this with tears in my eyes, he came to me and gave me what I most needed...MY HUG!
Christopher told me that whenever I needed my Kelsey hug, I should just ask and he will give me two hugs. How could an 8y/o boy be so wise?
