Tuesday Tip Series: A Day Without Communication is Like...IMPOSSIBLE #5

Posted in Tuesday Tips
Continuing this week with my series, A Day Without Communication is like...IMPOSSIBLE!

You may be able to get through our entire life without ever having to make a speech but you can't get through one single day without communicating something to somebody!  Last week I talked about how important communication skills are for learning.  This week I would like to share with you why communication skills are so vital in college prep.

5. Communication Skills and College Prep
We are intimately familiar with this topic as for the last two years we have been preparing our daughter for college.  She will be attending Vanderbilt University in the Fall.  College prep has changed a great deal since I graduated high school!  There is a great deal more competition and more communication skill is required for college exams and applications these days.

Not only is effective communication important for classes (as we discussed last week), but in order to be accepted to a college of your student's choice, he or she will need effective communication skills as well!

College applications require several essays these days.  Not only do they evaluate your student's accomplishments which are written into the essay but they evaluate the ability of the student to convey this effectively.  Admission officers are looking for articulate and accomplished candidates.  If your student is accomplished but cannot convey that to a college admissions board, he will be passed over for one who can!

Even the college entrance exams are communication skills intensive these days.  When I took the SAT there was no writing required.  Today there is!  Many, if not MOST, of the SAT II tests require writing even if the subject has nothing to do with writing.

Some colleges require or offer college interviews.  Then your student will have to convey their abilities in oral form!

All of these communication skills will offer your student a better opportunity to gain entrance into the college of his or her choice.

About Me

I was raised by two Atheists of Jewish heritage, married a non practicing Catholic and became a non denominational Christian due, in part, to some Amway meetings and a Jehovah's Witness who came to my door. My purple crayon writes with humor and almost always a little out of the lines. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This blog is my creative and fun way of sharing my thoughts on communication skills relating mostly to sharing and defending the faith. It also reveals a bit about how the Lord took this shy Agnostic girl and allowed her to find her voice and her purpose, a zany voice to the Christian community with insight as to what unbelievers need to hear about Christ Jesus. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ DON'T MISS: Tuesday Tips, Misadventures of Foot in Mouth Man, Friday Funnies, Defending the Faith SONdays ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For more creative fun with JoJo you can visit www.ArtofEloquence.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver." -Proverbs 25:11
