The Communication of Homeschooling
"And ye shall teach them
your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and
when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou
risest up." ~Deuteronomy 11:19 I collect quotes. I
don't know if it's a hobby or a (job hazard) habit as a writer.
But I collect Bible quotes, funny quotes and famous quotes on subjects
like communication skills and education. As I was
reading this one over, I realized that homeschooling isn't just about
teaching our children the three R's (which I have never
understood. Reading-yes, but Riting and 'Rithmatic? It
always seemed to me that these teachers weren't quite done
themselves. Ok, off topic...Moving on.) Homeschooling not
only involves communication but it is very much like
communication. You not only communicate when you are
giving a speech or having a purposeful conversation with someone, but
you also communicate by the way you act, the way you carry yourself,
what you wear, who you associate yourself with, etc.
In a very similar way, we homeschool (or teach) our children without
realizing it. We teach them about anger by showing them what
things anger us. We teach them about responsiblity by the way we
handle it ourselves. We teach them about honesty each time we
answer a tough question. We teach them about love by the way we
love them and show love to their father. And on it goes.
We are the most important example of what a mother and father is in the
world and under God. We are the example to them of what it means
to be a Christian. They will follow us even if we aren't doing it
well. May the Lord lead us in the ways WE are to go so that we may communicate a good Christian example to our children! Until next time... The Purple Crayon http://www.ArtofEloquence.com
