Tuesday Tip: New Contest! Win an eStoRybOok!

This week's Tuesday Tip: Play Communication BINGO!
You could win an eStoRybOok!

This is a game I play with my homeschool Yahoo group, Homeschooling with Humor!  It's a great deal of fun and a creative way to teach your children about communication skills.  It's called Communication Bingo.  It's played like a virtual version of Bingo.

FIMM is about to have his 100th episode and to celebrate we are giving all of you a chance to win a prize!  This Communication Bingo is in honor of Foot in Mouth Man who is the Art of Eloquence mascot and resident MIScommunicator.  He sticks his foot in his mouth so often he has Athlete's Tongue!  He  does so each Wednesday for your amusement and confusement and to teach about the importance of being an effective communicator.

RULES OF PLAY:
1. Go to FIMM's page on Art of Eloquence and pick out 25 episodes.  (Past episodes are listed at the bottom)  Pick from episodes 1-97 ONLY!  I will not be calling out episodes after that for this game!

2. Email me your list of 25 FIMM Episodes before midnight PST on Sunday, May 25th mailto: jojo@artofeloquence.com

3. Listen to Grace Talk Soup each week to hear me announce 5 episodes that you can cross off your Bingo List.

When you have crossed off all 25 of the FIMM episodes on your list, be the first to call in to Grace Talk Soup and announce BINGO!  (You can either text it in the chatroom or you can announce it over our call in phone line:

Phone Number: (724) 444-7444
Call ID: 19736

I will announce 5 episodes per week in random order.  The game will go on until someone calls in a BINGO!  Bingo will be verified against the list that you sent in to me and the winner will receive his/her choice of our personalized eStoRybOok title in PDF version!  eStoRybOoks come personalized with your child's name, age and best friend's first name where they are the hero of the story!

Good luck everyone!  Don't put off sending in your lists or you may miss out!  Only those who turn in their lists to me via email will have a chance to win!

Don't miss the last day of live events for the Say What You Mean Convention 2008!

11am EST
Keynote Speaker: Kym Wright
“Ordinary Home: Holy Place” - How can I make my home holy? Set apart for a specific purpose. That’s the definition of the word “holy.” Like the holiday decorations we keep in the attic, or the china stored on our shelves - the things we use - or save - for specific times, places, people, events. And our homes can be that way. Set apart - not the norm, the run-of-the-mill, nor ordinary. Set apart for the specific purpose of encouraging each person in the path God has for them. Modeling God’s character for our children. Speaking words of confidence, encouragement, kindness. It starts with you and me … Plus Q and A time with Mrs. Wright!

2pm EST
Don’t Fall For It! Critical Thinking for Moms - Co Host Cindy Powers teaches a fun and interactive seminar on critical thinking for moms.

5PM EST
How to Talk to Your Spouse …’Cuz You Must Workshop - JoJo’s fun and creative interactive workshop that helps husbands and wives understand each other better and communicate more effectively. Come bring your better half and learn how to communicate for a closer relationship!

8PM EST
Open Prayer Chat - Prayer is communication with God. Prayer is the beginning of a miracle. Let’s talk about prayer! Come meet some of the convention sponsors! Chat and pray with other convention goers and have some fun. Perhaps some of our guest speakers and keynote speakers will be here as well! This chat will NOT be recorded. Mark your calendars to be here LIVE!

Day 3 Contest and Prizes:
FIMM is the Art of Eloquence Mascot, a bumbling MIScommunicator who sticks his foot in his mouth so often he has Athlete’s Tongue. He does so for your amusement and confusement in order to illustrate and teach communication skills. Contestants will submit a funny idea for FIMM that will be turned into an episode. (You don’t need to write a complete episode. You simply need to articulate an idea.) If you are not familiar with FIMM’s Faux Pas, please visit his home on Art of Eloquence and read some of his past episodes. The most creative and funny idea will win the following prizes and will be published as a Misadventure of Foot in Mouth Man on FIMM’s page with a link back to the winner’s blog or website. Happy Birthday Ronald Reagan!

Ronald Wilson Reagan (February 6th 1911-June 5th 2004) was the 40th President of the United States.  No matter what anyone thought of his politics, they couldn't help but love The Great Communicator who spoke with disarming humor and a positive outlook.  Those who spoke with him always remarked at how he had the knack of making them feel as if they were the only person in the world who mattered at that moment!

Today is The Great Communicator's birthday and the day around which the Say What You Mean Convention is held.  Ronald Reagan was, in this humble author's opinion, the greatest president this country has ever had!  He brought faith, dignity and confidence back to the nation.  Oh how I pray we had a chance to vote for a Ronald Reagan in this upcoming election!  We could certainly use his humor, his strong values and his courage of conviction right about now!

Here are a few Reaganisms I love:

"Before I refuse to take your questions, I have an opening statement."

"I have wondered many times about what the Ten Commandments would have looked like if Moses had run them through the U.S. Congress."

"The Taxpayer: That's someone who works for the federal Government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination."

"Freedom prospers when religion is vibrant and the rule of law under God is acknowledged."

For more on Ronald Reagan and to participate in a free online event with all the creativity and fun of a Ronald Reagan, please come to the Say What You Mean Convention which begins tomorrow!

What's your favorite homeschool question?  How do you handle these questions?  What's the silliest question YOU have ever been asked about homeschooling?  Come share live on air on Grace Talk Soup this morning at 8am pst/11am EST.

Michael Farris of HSLDA will be speaking at the SWM Online Convention this year!!!

The Say What You Mean Convention is Feb. 7-9, 2008
Admission: FR*EE!!

I am so excited!  This is our third annual Say What You Mean Convention and we have plans to make it even bigger and better than last year!  And last year was so busy we ran out of bandwith once and had to increase our bandwith twice!  (Don't worry we have taken care of that issue and are ready for even more visitors this coming year!)

The Lord spoke to my heart almost four years ago and asked me to help the Christian homeschooling community understand the vital importance of communication skills in a secular world that rejects Jesus.  It is more difficult to share and defend our values, morals and beliefs these days.  Communication skills are important for everyone and in every aspect of life but they are vital to the next generation of Christians!  Communication skills are the most neglected, misunderstood and underestimated subject there is.  And communication is so much more than manners or speech making.

Next year's theme will be Stages: The Three C's.
Each of the convention days will focus on the importance of communication skills at each stage of life: Children, College Prep and Career (Including Motherhood!). Each of the days will feature fr*ee, creative and fun workshops and seminars. Some will be live interactive text/voice chat seminars and some will be previously recorded audio seminar/interviews. Of course we will continue to have fr*ee giveaways, contests and prizes!

Feb. 7th is Children's Day
Keynote Speaker: Carol Barnier, author of "How to Get Your Child Off the Refrigerator and on to Learning"
Seminar: Don't Miss the Gift
Time: TBA

Feb. 8th is College Prep Day
Keynote Speaker: Michael Farris of HSLDA and Patrick Henry College
Seminar: College Prep Resources
Time: 11am EST

Feb. 9th is Career Day
Keynote Speaker: Kym Wright, Homeschool Author/Speaker
Seminar: Ordinary Home: Holy Place
Time: 11am EST

Keep watch for more details about the Say What You Mean Convention!  Mark your calendars for February 7-9, 2008 so you don't miss a thing!  Last year, some missed Dr. Jay Wile's talk on Evolution vs Creation.  Not all events are recorded so mark your calendars so you don't miss them!
