Wanna hear my dd speaking on the radio?
Nov. 1, 2007
Big apology! Spiritual Warfare at work!
Well, folks... I had a fight with technology this morning and technology won! I sincerely apologize to anyone who attempted to come to the Birthday Bash show on Grace Talk Soup this morning. TalkShoe.com is still trying to figure out what happened.
I logged on at ten til the hour to find that I was muted. I was able to text but unable to unmute myself. After a minute or two I decided to try hanging up and dialing in again. I was elated to see that I was unmuted. Unfortunately, about a half hour into the show, it said "recording ended"! I made a valiant untechie try to create a second show logging off and on several times, but each time I had the same issues. The wheels began to turn as a thought came to me that I might be able to speak if I signed on using another profile. That too failed to work. After an hour and a half or more of valiant attempts to connect and a call to TalkShoe Tech Support, I knew it wasn't going to work.
The original show did, indeed record, but what you will find when you listen is about a half hour of utter silence!
I find it strangely coincidental that this had not happened to anyone else as far as Talk Shoe is aware. This is the first time this has ever happened as far as anyone knows. My work must be a threat to the Evil One as he went to great lengths to silence me today. But I will not be silenced.
I still plan on teaching my family communication workshops and give away all the prizes. In fact, if there is a way to make the Birthday Bash even bigger and better, I will do it. I had scheduled a Christmas show in December and I think I will combine the two making the Birthday Bash even more special by focusing on Jesus (CHRISTmas) even more than I had planned to today!
In order to overrule the Evil One, I am asking that you ALL turn out for the event in December! Let's show him that he has no power here! Come spend three hours with me having fun with your kids at the workshops and participating in some contests for prizes! I would love to have an even bigger turnout than there would have been today! Who's with me?
I deeply apologize for my abscence this morning but I promiss to be there in December with an even bigger and better show that honors God and teaches His children to stand up and speak out in grace and truth!

Can you believe this?!! Guess where I'm going to be in November?
About two or three years ago, a local school district told me that they would love use my curriculum in the public schools if I would just "take the God parts out". I was actually told this by two different people connected with the school district. They loved my studies and wanted me to teach but only if I would take God out of my presentation. I just couldn't do it. I was told that nobody would allow me to speak in a school if I didn't strip my presentation of the Lord.
Well, I have been invited to teach a workshop at a secular college down the hill. I called them back to confirm the details of what they wanted. I was up front with her and told her that my studies are Christian based and that I would be speaking from a Christian perspective and using some scripture. I told her that I do tone it down a bit for a more secular audience but that I do mention God, His Word and some scripture in my presentation. To my surprise, she said..."Ok." Soooo...I am going to be teaching at Chaffey Community College on November 3rd for their 1st annual Mother-Daughter Leadership Wellness Conference and Expo! They are even giving us a free booth- to house "the God parts". LOL
Now I just have to find someone to man the booth while I am teaching my seminar. Kelsey (my dd) will be taking two SAT2s that same day so she and my dh will be gone that morning. My son can go with Dad to take Kelsey to her dreaded last SATs but that will leave me sort of booth partner-less. I do have about a month to figure that part out though so please pray that I will find someone to help me.
If you are in Southern California, this event should prove to be very nice! If you do go, I would love for you to stop by my booth and say hello! I would love to meet some of you in person!

New Purple Crayon Award Winner! Nominations now being taken for April!
Happy March Everybody!
The Purple Crayon is the Pen Name I use on my blog, Communication FUNdamentals. Purple is the color of royalty as Jesus is King in Heaven. The crayon is a symbol of youth when we were at our most creative and before we it was pounded into our heads that we have to color inside the lines.
Every month Art of Eloquence awards someone the Purple Crayon Award. This award goes to the person or company who has used creative or effective communication in some way.
This month's award winner is Carla Ives from A Word Aptly Written.com. Carla's clean and easy to navigate website, her informative and creative blog and her fabulous customer service is refreshing in a world of automated and frustrating answering machines and confusing website links.
If you would like to nominate someone for the Purple Crayon Award next month, we are taking nominations! Just visit http://www.ArtofEloquence.com and click on Purple Crayon Award to read more about it. The link to submit a nomination is at the bottom of that page. You can even nominate your children for something creative or insightful that they said!! See their name up in lights!
Congratulations Carla!

2. Art of Eloquence CommUniversity will officially open in the Fall when we will be offering several classes teaching our speech communication studies! Tuesday Tip: Defending the Faith TeleClasses starting up Feb. 27th!
We had received so much positive feedback about our latest eBook, Say What You Mean: Defending the Faith already. One question that came up was if I would consider teaching the class online. This way students could get even more out of it by having real time, in-class practice under my instruction.
We like to accommodate our customers wherever we can so the answer is a resounding ...YES! The only thing is that, due to scheduling issues, the class will begin February 27th and will go til the middle of June! This is very short notice so we wanted to let you all know as soon as possible.
TeleClass Details:
I will be teaching the class on Tuesdays at 11am EST for the full 18 weeks of the course. Beginning in September, Art of Eloquence CommUniversity will be offering several TeleClasses taught from various Art of Eloquence Say What You Mean curricula. But this is the first and only class until September. Normally classes will be limited to 25 students in an effort to keep class sizes down and participation UP! This class is such short notice that I won't have much time to prepare my schedule so we are only taking 5-10 students this time around. That means even more personalized attention!
Cost:
If you already own the eBook, the TeleClass would only cost you an additional $15 (one student) for the entire semester! If not, you would need to purchase the eBook, Say What You Mean: Defending the Faith and pay an additional $15 to attend the TeleClass.
How to sign up:
I already have a few students so class spots are going fast. If you want to sign up for this TeleClass, please email me to check for availability for reservation in the TeleClass. Once payment is received, you spot is assured and I will email you the private Talk Shoe.com location of the TeleClass. Participation in the class would require a 5 minute sign up and download with TalkShoe.com. This is the same venue we used for the Say What You Mean Convention TeleSeminars.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in the TeleClass. We have very few spots available and they are going fast.

Happy Birthday to the Great Communicator, Ronald Reagan!
Today, would have been the 96th birthday of Ronald Reagan. He was one of our most beloved and respected presidents. “The Great Communicator” was born February 6th, 1911 and passed away in 2004. Here is a sampling of quotes from "The Great Communicator" http://www.saywhatyoumeanconvention.com/ronald-reagan.html
My dh and dd went to pay their respects at his casket viewing. The outpouring of love for this man was amazing! Everyone had a story to tell about how he had the knack of communicating with each person as if he were the only person on the face of the planet that mattered at that moment.
During his eight years in the White House, the 40th U.S. president staunchly opposed communism, streamlined the federal government and promoted a “peace through strength” policy that many credit with leading to the end of the Cold War.
The Say What You Mean Convention is held each year around his birthday because he was "The Great Communicator" who spoke with humor and a Christian perpective. The convention ended on Sunday, but we still have a lot to offer visitors! If you haven't already downloaded your 7 free eBooks or listened to any one of 8 audio seminars, please come on out and visit! http://www.SayWhatYouMeanConvention.com
Ronald Reagan was effectively articualte in discussing his faith. Now you can be also!
Would you or your children know how to answer these questions about the Christian faith?
* I am a good person. Why do I need God?
* Aren't all religions just different paths to the same place/God?
* Why do Christians have to force their beliefs on others?
* What about all the horrible things done in Jesus' name?
* If God is so powerful, why doesn't he make me believe?
* Why is there suffering if there is a God?
* Isn't the Bible full of contradictions, revisions and mistakes?
* Doesn't the Bible go against science?
Would you know how to tailor your answers to the individual needs of each of God's children so they don't immediately put up a wall when you mention Jesus?
Does the thought of a discussion with someone about these questions intimidate you?
How would you like to find an easy and fun way to study God's Word on these vital questions? To prepare your children to defend and share their faith while becoming more grounded themselves?
Introducing Say What You Mean: Defending the Faith! A communication and Bible apologetics course you and your family can do together! It's easy and fun! In just a few hours per week, you and your family will be better equipped to answer God's call...
"be ready always to give an answer to any man who asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear" (from 1Peter 3:15)

Sale ends midnight tonight PST!
Based on one of our most popular studies, the Know Your Audience Game is for 2-4 players of all ages. Learning listening and persuasion skills as well as a little bit about entreprenurial success. Players choose an Invention Card and roll the die. Along the road there are pitfalls that send them back and successes that propel them forward down the road to success. As they land on the pictures, the instruction guide will help them to present their invention to the various audiences giving them experience in presentation skills. Younger players can give just the facts of their invention learning confidence in presenting their ideas. Older children can learn to tailor their message to the various audiences to become more effective speakers.
- Fabric game board rolls up into a canvas backpack to take anywhere!
- Great for preschoolers and up
- Perfect fun for kids with ADD to learn the basics of speaking skills
- Great for shy children because it is just so much fun and done in the comfort of their own home
" I am a teacher at a small K-9 school. My wife ordered the Know Your Audience game for our children, but as soon as I saw it I knew it would be a perfect fit for my classroom activities. The inventor aspect made it a great tie in for Social Studies, as we study the impact of inventions on history. The speaking and communication aspect made it perfect as a Language Arts activity. With the current emphasis on Differentiated Instruction, which focuses on reaching the student through a variety of learning styles, the game is a perfect fit for classroom use in small groups. I borrowed the game the day after it arrived and took into my classroom. As I expected, the students were as thrilled with it as my own children were. If there is a prize for great educational game, Know Your Audience should top the list." Neil Korchinski, Father of Three, Teacher of many more.

FIMM: The Movie Makes its World Debut!
|
.........This Just In....................Extra, Extra!...................Read All About It!........
Thought you all might get a kick out of our newest Art of Eloquence
adventure. Foot in Mouth Man has had an exciting week. He
just moved in to his very own page on the Art of Eloquence site.
We pray his newfound fame doesn't go to his head. He has his own
movie, a second home and now a press release! The Misadventures of Foot in Mouth Man: The Movie makes its World Debut Hesperia,
CA, October, 23, 2006 - Clever cartoon short geared to youth uses humor
to emphasize the need for good communication skills in daily life. When
God led communication expert JoJo Tabares to a little character named
Foot in Mouth Man, an idea was conceived. “’The Misadventures of
Foot in Mouth Man’, affectionately known as FIMM for short, was an idea
that God gave me. This little character, FIMM, was to be brought
to life each week on our blog ‘Communication FUNdamentals’ as a way to
teach kids the importance of communication skills by watching him
fumble and bumble his way through life each week,” comments Mrs.
Tabares. What
basically started out as a humorous weekly cartoon strip to tell the
story of this socially awkward, albeit well-intentioned, 40-something
character took on a life of its own. “People started writing to
me about FIMM to tell me how much they enjoyed tuning in to his weekly
mishaps and social blunders on the blog,” laments Tabares, “so we
decided to take it to the next level and bring FIMM to the internet
small screen by making his social foibles into an animated short!” Mrs.
Tabares insists that this ‘unhero’ means well. “FIMM is a
good-natured fellow who deserves an ‘A’ for effort, but he lacks the
tact and social grace needed to communicate clearly, so he often finds
himself in embarrassing situations with his foot firmly planted in his
mouth,” she says. “Frankly, FIMM has a complete lack of
communication skills and sticks his foot in his mouth so often that he
suffers from what I like to call ‘Athlete’s Tongue’,” she jokes. When
asked what’s in store for Foot in Mouth Man, Mrs. Tabares had this to
say: “God laid this whole story out for me. FIMM’s audience will
continue to see him fumble through life and attempt to navigate through
major life events like courtship, marriage, and having children.”
Mrs. Tabares sees ‘The Misadventures of FIMM’ as a fun way to show
youth the importance of learning communication skills by highlighting
FIMM’s inability to communicate effectively in his everyday life.
FIMM followers will enjoy many misadventures such as ‘Romance FIMM
Style’, ‘Homeschooling FIMM Faux Pas’, and ‘Improving FIMMself’, to
name just a few. To join Foot in Mouth Man on his humorous weekly journey and to see FIMM: The Movie, visit www.artofeloquence.com/pages/FIMM.php. # # # By
the way, we are updating our site a little bit. The home page
might look a little different today. After visiting with FIMM,
stop by our home page and give us some feedback. We are still
tweeking and will be adding some clickable links from the homepage to
some recent interesting studies and information on communication!

5 Reasons to Teach Your Children to Say What They Mean to Defend Their Faith!
5 Reasons to Teach Your Children to Say
What They Mean to Defend Their Faith!
1. “But sanctify the
Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every
man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and
fear.” -1Peter 3:15
The Lord must think communication skills an
important subject because He mentions communication skills many, MANY times in
His Word. The Lord doesn't mention everything in the Bible, so when He does, it
behooves us to stand up and take notice. Amen?
2. Recent studies show that there is up to
a 58% chance that after four years of college, your son or daughter will come
out of college saying that they are no longer born again!
An overwhelming amount of college professors admit
to be quite liberal and many are anti Christian. Christian students have been
given lower grades and been humiliated in class for their Christian views. Most
college professors are fairly articulate. How long would your son or daughter
be able to hold his/her own in an environment like that? Give them the
advantage of being able to Defend their Faith and Say What They Mean in grace
and truth before they are badgered into giving up their salvation for a
few "A's" and a "Well done, my good and faithful Atheist!"
3. If your son or daughter is choosing
what's behind door number two, know that the secular world is getting
"secularer" all the time!
It is now illegal for a Pastor in the state of
California to speak out against homosexuality in his own church for he may be
jailed for "Hate Speech". A Pastor in California may not pray in Jesus' name at
a public gathering. Any other name is fine, but one may not pray in Jesus'
name! Do you know the laws in your state?
All across the country..."Merry Christmas" must
give way to "Happy Holidays". The 10 Commandments are coming down, prayer is no
longer allowed in schools, Bring Your Own Beer (BYOB) employee party
announcements may be circulated in most companies, but notifications of Prayer
Meetings may not! In God We Trust is next. Since the majority of Americans (or
the world) call themselves Christians, isn't it high time we stood up and spoke
out eloquently for what we believe?
4. It's fun to have fun learning
communication skills!
And as Dr. Seuss so eloquently put it: "It's
fun to have fun, but you have to know how!" The old Cat in the Hat was
right! Learning communication skills can be intimidating or even ...dare I say
it?...BORING! Oooh! Did I say that? Yes, my friends, it's your choice! You
can either teach your children to be effective communicators for Christ Jesus as
they look on with wide eyes of fear or perhaps closed eyes and snoring noises OR
you can teach them effective communication skills the fun way with Art of
Eloquence!
5. Say What You Mean: Defending the Faith
is coming soon!
Say What You Mean: Defending the Faith will be a
new eBook released soon by Art of Eloquence that teaches high school students
how to communicate effectively in order to defend and share their faith with
grace, in truth and with eloquence so that what they say may be heard with open
minds and open hearts.

Hey! I'm on the radio today! Come listen in! Paul and Gena will be on Thursday!
Come listen in! I'm on the
radio today!
There's a brand new
internet homeschool radio show with a Christian perspective! Hosts and veteran
homeschoolers, Leland and Kathy Fleming, have a passion for helping other
homeschoolers. Their show is very well done and airs every weekday on
various homeschooling topics. My interview talked mainly about the Carnival of
FUNschooling although it appears they would like to have me back! Come listen
in today! http://www.homeschoolingradio.com/
Paul and Gena Suarez will be on talking about The Old Schoolhouse
Magazine on Thursday so tune in then also. They are always a
blessing to hear!
And the Flemings are asking to interview homeschool dads and homeschool
kids as well as homeschool moms for their "Day in the Life" segments so
if you would be interested in sharing with the Christian homeschooling
public, contact them. They did a segment with a 14y/o
homeschooler last week. If you want to hear one of their past
shows, they are available through their archives.

Thank a soldier today! It's from Xerox and it's FREE!
One
of the reasons we learn to communicate effectively is to show
appreciation. I talk about this in several of the Art of
Eloquence Say What You Mean studies. Not only is it important to
show appreciation, but we must do it in a way that is meaningful for
that person.
My daughter makes a habit of approaching anyone in uniform in order to
thank them and their family for their sacrifice. I can't tell you
how much that means to these men and women who work so hard and so long
and sometimes so far from home.
Our old church has sent several care packages to a troop of soldiers
serving in Iraq. One of the body was a member of that troop and
was killed in Iraq. His family still supports his troop and the
church is still sending care packages with personal letters from the
body.
Well, here is another great way to to show our troops that we appreciate them!

Xerox will print and send a card to a soldier that
is currently serving in Iraq. It's free and only takes a minute to do.
You get to pick out a card, but you are not able to
choose which soldier will receive your card. It will go to some
member of the armed forces.
Many of the cards were submitted by children and
Xerox is accepting card designs so if you have artistic kids, you might want to
look into this!
Won't you take a minute out of your day to bring a little sunshine to a weary soldier?

My humble apologies to our newsletter subscribers!
While I am still trying to figure out how it happened, to how many it
happened and to some extent what happened... I would like to
extend my apologies to at least some of our subscribers for a very
garbled newsletter this month!
You see, Jo don't know HTML! So... I was attempting to use a
WYSIWYG program that was just added to my mailing list
program. This "easy to use" program took me 2 months to
figure out and then 6 days until I finally got a clean test copy.
At least one of my subscribers received a copy that was cut off on the
right side and had big blank spaces with some of the words
missing. I have a few messages in to my mailing list provider to
get a handle on it but so far, they are NOT COMMUNICATING! lol
The best laid plans of mice and newsletters!
If you received a garbled copy of this month's Communication
Connection, I do ask your forgiveness! I will be doing some
research on this before sending out next month's newsletter to make
sure it doesn't happen again.

The Communication You Didn't Know You Sent!
Art of Eloquence will celebrate its 4th year in business in
November. In that time I have written many, many articles that
have been published in various magazines, eZines, newsletters, and
websites. It is always fun to see your words in print (or an
electronic version). I have been blessed to have had my articles
published in places like The Old Schoolhouse Magazine and Dr.
Laura.com. One of the truly exciting things about being an author
or business owner is when you find your words or your website in places
you didn't expect! Two such incidents happened this week:
A few days ago, I was contacted by a woman writing her Master's Thesis
on homeschooling. She wanted to interview me because she had seen
something I wrote that appeared on someone's website. It was
actually not even an article I wrote, but a post I had written on a
Yahoo group that was in reply to the deschooling process. I am
often asked if someone can use my posts on their sites, but I don't
usually have time to follow up to see how they are posted. The
owner of the site not only gave me credit for the post, but linked my
website! Thank you! It apparently inspired this woman so
much that she wants to interview me to get more information to include
in her thesis. I am so tickled that I could help her!
Although having been asked so many times if someone could publish my
email replies on their website has made me a little more careful about
writing anything--even to a small Yahoo group!
This morning I decided to look at my webstats to find out how my most
recent visitors were finding me. First I have to thank several of
you fellow bloggers and HSB for posting Art of Eloquence links on your
blogs! I appreciate you!! One of the top referring websites I
noticed was HSLDA. Scratching my head a little I investigated
further to find that HSLDA had posted a link to Art of Eloquence as one
of their recommended quality curricula! Here is the link to their
High School Curricula Page: http://www.hslda.org/highschool/curriculum.asp
Art of Eloquence is listed toward the bottom of the page under Public
Speaking. A big thank you to whoever had referred us to
them!! This got me thinking about how I really should finish
updating my site! I had wanted to change a few things and add
some more information and fun!
This got me thinking about how important it is to Say What You Mean, if
you'll pardon the plug! LOL Sometimes we say or write
things without intending them to be overheard or read by anyone other
than those to whom we had directed it. We need to keep in mind
that whatever we say may be overheard by others. Whatever we
write may be forwarded or posted elsewhere.
Something to think about...
