New Educational Website with Software/Worksheets/Video
Hello! I am a permanently certified, elementary educator with a passion for enriching curriculum and supporting home schoolers. This has led me to develop a convenient, quality online educational resource website for home schoolers, parents and teachers of K-4 students.
Wings Educational Resources (www.wingsed.com) is intended to enhance the K-4 curriculum and to assist parents and teachers who are searching for quality educational materials.
Wings Educational Resources has a lot more than just “traditional” resources to offer.
In addition to the traditional materials – textbook units and worksheets, wingsed.com has audio, video, software (downloadable for you to keep and use as long as you want) and online library (new and growing) resources. New materials are added throughout each
month.
The variety of resources promotes success and achievement among students, fostering your child’s interests and accommodating their learning styles or abilities.
One of the great things about home schooling is the curriculum choice. As such, sections such as home economics, survival skills, first aid and basic vocabulary (often in software form) of secondary languages will be made available in the near future for the learning enhancement of your child/children.
I know that home schooling budgets are often tight and have made a conscientious effort to make things affordable. Access to all materials on the site is $15/month.
Try out this great new resource!
Sincerely,
|

Special Sale to help out the Estes Family (From Hands and Hearts)
Hello Everybody!
I know it's been a while since you heard from us, and I'm sorry about that. We have had a lot going on since our last newsletter. Little Noah ended up in Scottish Rite hospital in Atlanta for almost two weeks, our office manager moved out of state very suddenly (leaving me to figure out how to do his job!), we had major computer issues, and Jeff was laid off from his regular, full-time job. Whew! He still hasn't found any outside employment but we have been blessed to see God's daily provision for our family's needs.
As a result of all this, we ended up scrambling to keep things running here and had to put the newsletter on the back burner for just a little while. (You probably noticed this one isn't as "pretty" as the others. I'm still trying to figure out this program. ) :-) Overall we are getting on track again beautifully and are excited about what God is doing in our business.
We had planned to send out a newsletter next week, and still plan to do so, but this week we got an incredibly generous offer from our friend Jim Hodges and we didn't want to wait any longer to pass it on. He's offering a special sale on his products and is donating part of the profits to Noah. I'll be totally honest here - it is outside my comfort zone to try to raise money for Noah (feels like tooting my own horn), but this is unbelievably kind of Jim and I know that you all will really benefit also. Please take a second to read the details!
Jim Hodges is a home schooling dad and Navy retiree who turned his love for history into a business, producing unabridged recordings of the outstanding historical fiction novels written by George Alfred Henty in the 1800's.
Henty novels are full of adventure, valor, bravery, high morals, accurate history, and advanced use of the English language.
You and your children will love listening to stories from Ancient Egypt, the Crusades, the Age of Exploration, American history, and more. The kids will love them because the stories are awesome, you will love them because of the outstanding role models contained in the stories, the accurate history, and the advanced vocabulary. Everybody wins!
Jim has also recorded some books for younger children: Stories of the Pilgrims, Our Young Folk's Josephus, and American History Stories, as well as 4 books published by Lamplighter Publishing: all 3 Boys of Grit titles, and True Stories of Great Americans for Young Americans.
And finally, Jim has reissued some outstanding Old Time Radio shows that teach history in a really entertaining way: You Are There - World History Stories; You Are There - U. S. History Stories; and Horizon's West - A Tale of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Each of Jim's recordings are contained on a single CD in the MP3 file format. These CDs will play on a computer CD drive or DVD player, or can be copied onto an I-pod or other MP3 device. They will not, however, play on a standard CD player. It would take too many CDs! These recordings are up to 15 hours long! How many CDs would that take?
And in this particular promotion, our family will win as well.
Jim has agreed to donate 50% of the profit from EVERY SALE to the Estes family to use as we see fit. This should help with Noah's medical bills, medicines and supplies as well as other needs.
Jim wrote: "This wonderful family has endured much, and continues to shine forth the love of Jesus in all that they say and do. I have never read a self-pitying complaint from them, or heard them ask for anything but prayer."
If you would like some really great prices on quality home school supplies AND make a donation to our family finances, please check out the specials at this link. And thank you! We appreciate you!
http://www.jimhodgesaudiobooks.com/helpinghandssale.html
Please feel free to pass this newsletter/special link to anyone who might be interested in this sale.

Sonya Haskins is Looking for Homeschool Families to Share their Stories
I am working on a new homeschool book that will include stories - good
and bad - from the average homeschool family. I'm looking for any
anecdotes or short little stories on the following topics:
- homeschool sibling relationships
- the homeschool marriage
- scheduling
- housecleaning
- academics (how do you think your children compare to others -
homeschooled or not?)
- extracurricular activities (are you too busy? do you enjoy these
activities? do you think your children need more outside activities?
why
or why not?)
- are there issues that affect your ability to homeschool effectively?
Have you considered quitting? Why did you decide to continue?
- what has been the biggest hindrance to your homeschool day?
Certain answers and portions stories may be used in a published
homeschool book. Please don't send me anything that you would not want
printed. If permitted, I will use your name, but this is not
mandatory.
Due to the subject matter, if you want to remain annonymous, this is
also acceptable, though I am more likely to use your story or answers
if
I am able to use your name.
Please e-mail me PRIVATELY with any comments, questions, suggestions,
answers, or feedback to the above mentioned questions. All responses
will remain confidential (unless I use portions in a book).
Please forward this to other homeschool loops and homeschool friends
you
may have in other states. I will need responses from a wide range of
homeschoolers before I can complete the project.
Thanks,
Sonya Haskins

Vision Forum's 2007 Film Competition and Jubilee Awards Deadline coming soon!
2007 Film Competition And Jubilee Awards — Deadline August 1st

Calling on the Christian filmmakers of America: Join hundreds of filmmakers from across the nation who are submitting films for what some are describing as America’s “premiere” Christian film festival and competition. The fourth annual San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival is rapidly approaching. August 1 is our submission deadline for your entry to the 2007 festival for the prestigious $10,000 Jubilee Award competition.
New Film Short Category: American Historical
Film short categories include narrative, documentary, creation, political, and the biblical family. This year, to celebrate America’s 400th birthday and the founding of the Jamestown settlement, the San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival is inaugurating a special category for films that address God’s providential working in American history. Films submitted under the American Historical category, may also be considered for awards in our other categories, including Narrative, Documentary, or any of the special categories such as Biblical Family, Creation, or Political.
These “American Historical” films can portray any period of American History and qualify in the Narrative, documentary, or one of our special categories: creation, the biblical family, political or American historical.
Visit the film festival site to read the rules, guidelines, and category explanations. Non-competition entries will also be accepted for screening purposes at the festival. This is your opportunity to participate in a culture-challenging, distinctively biblical film festival for independent Christian artists of all ages and backgrounds. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to submit your film! Film submissions must be postmarked by August 1, 2007. Click here to get started.
Helpful Rule Changes for Filmmakers
This year, documentaries screened on U.S. television are now eligible for entrance into the film competition. Also, past festivals, filmmakers entering to compete were required to allow Vision Forum Ministries the option of including their film submissions in a “Best of the SAICFF” video album. This stipulation has now been lifted. Read more here.
New Treatment Contest — Deadline September 1
Winner Receives $2,500 in Cash and Prizes
We are pleased to announce the 2007 Treatment Contest. Whether or not you submit a film to the 2007 San Antonio Independent Christian Film Festival, you can still walk away with an award for creativity, vision, and professionalism by competing in our new Three-Page Treatment Contest. First place receives $1,000 cash, a family scholarship pass to the 2008 SAICFF, all events and screenings. In addition, the First Prize winner will receive a professional script analysis of the finished script based on the winning treatment (valued at $1,000), and a free copy of Final Draft screenwriting software with which to write the script.
To learn more about submitting a treatment to the SAICFF Three-Page Treatment Contest, ideas on how to make your treatment the best possible, and deadlines, click here. Competition entry fee is $25. Individual writers can submit no more than four treatments apiece. All entries must be postmarked by September 1, 2007. |
