Curriculum
Posted: 8:11 PM, Apr. 27, 2007
I have decided that since I'm having so much trouble with loading pictures on this site, that I'll just use this one to discuss homeschool issues, and if you want to view my pictures, you can head over to my other blog site at cre8ivemom.blogspot.com/
I was just going to stay over at blogspot, but I have missed my HSB friends immensely, so I really wanted to keep my blog here, too! Hopefully, this will be the best of both worlds!
It seems to be that time of year again. Everyone is gearing up for conventions, trying to decide what purchases to make, what changes to make. I'm jumping on that bandwagon. Although I do know what I am doing for most subjects, I do want to get some opinions on a couple of things. Do any of you have experience with Teaching Textbooks? Their website is: www.teachingtextbooks.com/Default.asp
Also, does anyone have experience with the Ray Notgrass curriculum? I'm looking at it for high school. That website is: www.notgrass.com/world-history-high-school-curriculum.php
Any and all input welcome!
It's so nice to be back here at HSB!
Trouble
Posted: 8:36 AM, Apr. 26, 2007
Ever since HSB went to this new format, I have had MAJOR trouble trying to update it. So, until I can figure it all out, I am temporarily blogging at:
http://cre8ivemom.blogspot.com/
Please pray that I can figure out how to update this blog...every time I attempt, when I go to add in pictures, the whole thing just disappears. It's VERY frustrating!!!

Girl Scout Party
Posted: 2:44 AM, Dec. 16, 2006
Our girl scout troop had a "Secret Santa Tea" last week. Each of the girls drew names to see who they would be a "secret santa" for. Then they each had to MAKE that girl a gift. We discovered we have some very creative girls in our midst! They did a fantastic job on their gifts! It was a ton of fun!
The girls getting their cookies. Each girl had to bring a dozen homeade cookies to share.
Mrs. Tammy serving the tea.
Tinkerbell received this pillow from her "secret santa", Keely.
Breanna opening Tinkerbells gift of potpourii sachets.
The girls singing Christmas carols.
Our fantastic troop!
Gingerbread houses
Posted: 6:58 PM, Dec. 8, 2006
The kids made their annual Gingerbread houses yesterday! Although, it did take some convincing on Peanut's part, he did finally get into the spirit!
Intense concentration here!
Tink loves the different color icing!
Hard at work!
Peanut did a lot of "tasting"
Now he's into it! :)

The finished product! They had a good time making them, once again!
Our little cheerleader
Posted: 4:26 PM, Dec. 8, 2006
Tinkerbell is cheering for the basketball season. I tried to take pictures at the game last night, but the gym is too dark. Oh well...I'll get some good shots with my 35mm camera. In the meantime, here are a couple of shots of our little cheerleader after the game!

Calling all high school homeschooling mom's!
Posted: 10:57 PM, Dec. 2, 2006
My son is 1/2 way through his 7th grade year, so I figure I should probably start researching what our options are for high school! It will take me a year and a half to learn everything I need to know about homeschooling a high schooler! So, PLEASE, leave me your tips, advice, do's and dont's! What are the best curriculums to use for high school? How do we make transcripts? HELP! :)
A God thing...

A couple of months ago, my dad's dog was hit by a car and killed. It devestated all of us...she was such a sweet dog! The meter man left the gate open, and when she ran out, he chased her. She ran into the street and was hit.
Fast forward to a couple of days ago....
I was standing in line at the ATM and a woman walked up and put a sign up next to the ATM. I walked up behind her and took the sign down. She looked at me like I was crazy, and told me to put it back up. I said no, that I wanted it.
This is "it" :

She was giving away, FREE, an eleven week old, pure bred Golden Retriever. Her lab hated the puppy, so she needed to get rid of him quickly. I picked the puppy up that night, and the kids and I fell in love with him IMMEDIATELY! I started calling him "Trouble" because he just LOOKED for trouble! He is SO STINKIN' CUTE! Obviously, the kids and I knew that this was the PERFECT Christmas gift for Bopa.
We took the puppy up to my parents house today. Shawn carried him in, and said, "look what Santa dropped off for you Bopa!" My dad was speechless, and fell immediately in love with him. Dad named the puppy "Bailey" and as I write, Bailey is getting all settled into his new home! Isn't he a DOLL, though?

Science
Posted: 10:33 PM, Nov. 17, 2006
Peanut has been reading about chemical reactions in science. His latest experiment was to show how chemicals react to each other. It was pretty interesting!
Red cabbage and water boiled together was the first step.
Measuring out vinegar
Adding the vinegar to the cabbage and water mixture.
Peanut had filled a balloon with baking soda, but he needed his sister's help getting the balloon on the bottle!
Once the baking soda was dumped into the liquid at the bottom, the balloon started blowing up! It was so cool to watch!
Peanut is really enjoying his science lessons this year!
Patriotic Friday

My Patriotic Friday post is the addition of the video at the bottom of my blog, in honor of all our men and women who are away from their families.
Enjoy!
Marine Corps Birthday
Posted: 11:14 PM, Nov. 13, 2006
What do the wives from 1/5 do when our husbands are deployed and we have no Marine Corps ball to attend? We get together and take our kids to Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate the Marine Corps birthday!
Caroline isn't too sure about that broccoli!
Tinkerbell has a fan club watching her shoot hoops!
Mandy and Tamra visiting...its so nice to spend time with women who are in the same boat you are!
Peanut and Dave chowing down on pizza!
Shaela and Caroline are having a great time dancing!
So, we may not have spent the evening dancing the night away with our Marines, but we did the next best thing. We spent the evening with good friends, instead!
