Fall Classes Rush

Can you believe our classes for fall are already filling up?  I'm the type of mom that always waits until the last minute. My kids would never have been able to take classes! I wouldn't have thought about it until August and by then it would have been too late!

The most popular classes are Rosie's writing classes. I can totally see why! She seems to pull out of even the most reluctant writer, words that were hidden deep within them. John took her class this year. He wrote a thank you note to his grandparents who then e-mailed me and said, "What is this boy doing? His vocabulary is incredible!"

Erica finally was able to take Reader's Theatre. If any of you know Erica, you know she is the little drama queen. She worked real hard to get her reading skills up so she could take the class.  She's been thrilled with it!

Speaking of Drama ...  Mrs. Chandler's Drama class seems to have way too much fun! Every time they come out of the room they are all abuzz.

I better scoot..we're SO busy!

Public School Challenges

It must be such a difficult decision to take a child out of public school, opting to do something radical, like homeschooling him. Today in the store we had a man from a local school district stop in to get information for parents who want to take their children out of the "system" and begin to homeschool them.  We praise God that he came to our store for information!

One of the store's mottos is "Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire." W.B. Yeats. If you haven't memorize the above quote, I would highly recommend you commit it to memory. It would seem the current public education system is a system of bucket fillers. They see the child  not as someone who has immense potential and talent, but as someone who will score a certain level on a test.

One woman was frustrated that her child is simply fed information for the test. I saw excitement, mixed with a bit of apprehension and fear, as she is taking control of her child's education. She desires her child to love learning for the sake of learning, not just to answer the questions on the test.

I love that God has placed us in a position to reach out to these parents, affecting the lives of their children.

Until next time...

Terri
