Public School Challenges

It must be such a difficult decision to take a child out of public school, opting to do something radical, like homeschooling him. Today in the store we had a man from a local school district stop in to get information for parents who want to take their children out of the "system" and begin to homeschool them.  We praise God that he came to our store for information!

One of the store's mottos is "Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire." W.B. Yeats. If you haven't memorize the above quote, I would highly recommend you commit it to memory. It would seem the current public education system is a system of bucket fillers. They see the child  not as someone who has immense potential and talent, but as someone who will score a certain level on a test.

One woman was frustrated that her child is simply fed information for the test. I saw excitement, mixed with a bit of apprehension and fear, as she is taking control of her child's education. She desires her child to love learning for the sake of learning, not just to answer the questions on the test.

I love that God has placed us in a position to reach out to these parents, affecting the lives of their children.

Until next time...

Terri
