What do Sticky Notes have to do with learning to read?

Learning to Read with Sticky Notes!

Since my eldest two sons are 11 and 10, it's been several years since I've enjoyed the privilege of teaching my child to read. Now that my 5 y.o. is just learning to read, I'm  having so much fun doing those hands-on activities that I did with my eldest.

**Warning, this activity can cause your child to beg for more and cause excessive amounts of sticky notes stuck everywhere!

Instructions:
Write words of objects (in the house) on sticky notes and stick them to a book or clipboard.
Have your child walk around with their notes placing them on the correct objects.

I love this. We've done this with Spanish, but it never occurred to me to do it with my early readers. Thanks!

I am going to do this sticky note game tomorrow ~ thanks! I really appreciated your commetn on my blog tonight. I feel the same way ~ I am perfectly content being home and in jammies. Somehow I believe God will bring me to a balance between hermit and hectic.
Blessings,
Michele

Thanks for leaving a comment on my blog. It's very encouraging! I've worked with phonics sounds quite a bit with her. I really like the sticky note idea... and thanks for the warning. (Perhaps we should get stock in 3M?!) :-)

BTW, cute photos... of your ds & his posty notes! Also, that's neat about the hamsters... I think. Not sure if I'd wanna find out about the babies *after* the fact, either.

May I add you as a friend?

We do this, too. Great fun for all! Love your blog & linked sites (but the links weren't working - I had to manually type them in). You've given me some more fun ideas!

Hi there!! I can't believe you lived in Death Valley! Muy Caliente! I live in Victorville, in the Mojave Desert. I think it is about 3-4 hours away from Death Valley. I noticed you live in Oregon now. Big change. And it is beautiful there. Hope you have a good weekend.

Hello somehow I ended up here. Love your site. I am new to the blog. Isn't it funny how fast we forget some things when we aren't teaching them. I am currently teaching my third child to read, while making sure the second keeps going with her reading. Not to mention I still have another one coming up the ranks. When my youngest is in kindergarten my oldest will be a freshman in highschool. I keep telling myself some how I won't confuse e=mc2 with The cat sat.

Oh, I love this idea! I'm always looking for fun new things to do with my pre-schooler. He loves doing school like his brothers and I know he will enjoy this activity!

Blessings,

Angela

I love this idea, too. My 5 year old grandson will love it. I can always use new ideas.

Thanks for the comment on my site about my grown son. You are right, God is not finished with him yet, his heart is still tender.
