Posted in Skool

We actually went on a real life homeschool field trip yesterday.
It's been a year since we met up with the nearest group of homeschoolers.
"Nearest" is such a misleading word.
They meet a little over an hour away and that just doesn't qualify as "near" to me.
But they were closer to us this time!
We got to visit a planetarium and a reptile exhibit.
One of the coolest parts was getting up close and personal with this guy:He's an Eastern Indigo Snake and he is gorgeous! The nice lady holding him let us pet him.
We actually have a few of these in our "yard" but only because we're surrounded by woods.
The best news about this fella is:
"They can eat rattlesnakes and other pit vipers because they are immune to their venom."

We also have rattlesnakes and pit vipers in our area.
I love you, Mr. Snake.

Hmmm, I'd love to borrow him for awhile. Little did we know when we moved in to our house that the drainage ditch that runs behind our fence is home to numerous types of snakes. We don't know all of them back there so we tend to play in the front yard.

"Gorgeous" and "snake" are not two words that I would use in the same sentence. Neither are "planetarium" and "reptile exhibit." Now there's an odd combination. But a snake that can eat a rattler...that's cool! Might be fun to watch...

Eww! I am terrified of snakes and am very glad we don't have rattlesnakes or the one in the photo near us :) The only ones we have are harmless garter snakes and I don't even like to see them *grin*
Have a wonderful Friday,

It is true you can grow to love these guys if only because they do keep away the "bad guys". We have had a few visit us and DH found a baby one that we ID'd from the internet. It sat at my desk for the day ( in a tightly sealed Peanut Butter Jar with a hole in the lid) while we investigated all the features that could tell us it was not venomous - our neighbor thought it was a baby copperhead, but it was a juveneille indigo snake. It was pretty cool.
