Mar. 19, 2008 - Some Thoughts on Scripture...

Genesis 2:18:

"The LORD God said,
"It is not good for the man to be alone.
I will make a helper suitable for him."

When The Lord God said that, it was in reference to Adam.
Adam, who was alone.
Literally.
There were no other people.
The population was 1.

Today, none of us are "alone".

1 Corinthians 7 says:

"Now to the unmarried and the widows I say:
It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I am.
But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry,
for it is better to marry than to burn with passion."

"Are you unmarried? Do not look for a wife."

"An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord's affairs:
Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit.
But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—
how she can please her husband."

So is marriage wrong? Absolutely not.
But it also not "required".

"But if you do marry, you have not sinned;
and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned.
But those who marry will face many troubles in this life,
and I want to spare you this."

Whether or not the Lord has planned for my 18-yr old to marry remains to be seen.

Hmmm. I don't think I ever thought about it that way. So many believe it's not good to be alone, and that's a good reason for ALL of us to be married. There is another perspective, and I'm glad you put this out there. :')

On another note, you posted the 500th comment on my blog! Wow! Thanks for reading along and sharing your thoughts, etc. I appreciate my friends' comments and feedback. :')

Wow. Great post! I get so sick of everyone saying you HAVE to get married; it seems an unspoken prerequisite for godliness! But God can use people whether He decides they should be married or not. And don't get me wrong, I'd love to be married one day and experience that kind of relationship; it can be so beautiful! But I don't think that if God says otherwise my life is over. Really. Life can be full and rich with or without a spouse... Jesus is the One who gives us abundant life, not a fellow human. Really!
