May. 19, 2008 - It Is Educational
Posted in Silly

We have been without television for 8 years. No cable (which doesn't exist out here) and no satellite (which does exist) and no regular local reception (which is just an amusing concept).

But stand back when we visit folks who do have tv.

Stopping by mom's, for instance, means that we're hollering "dibs" on the remote before we get there.

Guy likes The History Channel and all things war related or anything educational.
The 11-yr old wants cartoons.
The 18-yr old wants music videos.
The 26-yr old just likes to watch moving pictures.

Me? I only want to watch...

I know Guy understands and I hope Mel will.

But since we can't always visit when the show is on, my 26-yr old has been good at providing me in-home viewing with the purchase of these:

He'll continue to be fed.

*girlish giggling* I haven't actually watched the show, but he does look like a cutie!

We don't have cable or reception either. We've been told that it's because we "want to shelter our kids". No, although I don't see what's so wrong with that anyway, it's because if we watched it enough to justify that money, we'd be watching WAY to much tv. Besides, why pay for cable when there's Netflix?

You're back!!! I've missed that bubble-blowing smilie in my comments section. It's been too quiet around here. Did you get a new computer or salvage the old one? And, is the beauty parlor/pawn shop really in one location?

I've caught a minute or two of this show. Makes me feel a whole lot better about my own domestic abilities.

We have basic cable because without it we have no reception. When we go on vacation, both my husband and son love Dirty Jobs. Are you back online for good now? Yea!

I know we went with out cable for a couple of years and it was quite a shock when we got it back. We do love Dirty Jobs and also Mythbusters. The History Channel is a winner along with the Discovery Channel. There are some worth while things on there sometimes.

Really, you're not missing much with the TV. We have just basic cable, and the only thing worth watching is American Idol, which I know you don't watch but should.

I've watched Dirty Jobs in hotels, and I like it too.

So did you get a new computer?

haha, i love it!

We just recently got tv (satellite, not a television set- though i saved up and we just got a nice, new one of THOSE too- and the old one -which no longer has sound- went bye bye).. my husband teases me endlessly because i quit my gym membership put the money towards satellite tv. My logic is that it's summer time and I can get my exercise in other ways than in a crowded, sweaty, gross gym where everyone stares at you and compares you to the next fat person. anyways, we've been really good about monitoring how much we watch - and will most likely get rid of it before we have chitlens, but for now, it's been fun to keep up with the popular American Idol and get to watch my favorite shows once in a while like 'Cops' and stuff on the history channel. I love the history channel..

Oh, my, I don't watch dirty jobs nearly enough...

But I also thought I'd ask, what are those little chicks??? I imagine they aren't going to be that cute forever, what'll they turn into???

We're back...

That and Deadliest Catch. I love the image that I conjured up in my mind of your family running in the front door, dropping your bags, running to the couch and all diving to get to the remote. Has anyone ever received broken bones??

I hope all is well with you and yours!
