CrossView Academy
Aug. 25, 2008 - Nim's Island

It's been awhile since I've seen a movie so good that it became my "new favorite movie".
And we watch a lot of movies.
So I'm always thrilled when we find one THAT good.
And we did.

It's one we've been wanting to see since we first saw the previews.

The biggest draw to me was wanting to see Jodie Foster in a comedic role.

The very-close-second reason was because it has Gerard Butler in it.
You know, Gerard Butler??!! The hot, Scottish, guy?
King Leonides?
Attila the Hun?
Timeline?
But I digress....

And let me tell you, my husband is so wonderful that he will take his Southern accent and do a really bad Scottish accent just for me!!

Oops! Still digressing.....

It also has Abigail Breslin, who's a phenomenal actress.

Yeah, it's awesome!
Lots of adventure.
A homeschooled kid.
Strong parental love.
Laughter.
And it's actually a family movie.

If I'm really good and get my "to do" list done, I'm going to reward myself and watch it again today.
If I don't get it all done, I'm gonna watch it anyway.
Sort of a consolation prize.

I thought that was a great movie as well! And I watched it on my friend's new 52" lcd screen, so that Gerard Butler guy (never heard of him before) seemed like he was in the room with me. I kept sucking my stomach in unconsciously.....Ü

I almost watched that movie last weekend. My aunt and uncle had it, but everyone ultimately voted on another one. I really want to see it; I've heard good things about it. I like Gerard Butler (although I've only seen him in Phantom, I think). and I totally forgot that the girl in it was homeschooled! I'm def. checking it out sometime....(that is if I can get off of my current John Wayne kick!)

oh, yes, do read Mere Christianity. It's amazing.

Good to know! I'm off to add this to my Netflix queue. By the way, my favorite Gerard Butler role is the phantom from Phantom of the Opera. I wanted Christine to fall in love with him so badly...never mind that he was a murderer...and just forget that ol' effeminate Raoul! Every time I watch it, it makes me mad.

Aug. 31, 2008 - I Loved This Movie Too!!!

We really enjoyed this movie. (Probably because I've never read a book . . .) It was great! We saw it in the dollar theatre right after watching Wall E on our anniversary in July. I love her "island schooling". Think we could find a place like that?

Sorry I've been MIA. The summer is the worst time of year for me. It's hot, I have multiple things going on at work, and then there's all the health problems I was experiencing. I think I'm back for a while. :)

What I meant to say was that I enjoyed the movie, probably because I hadn't read THE book (not A book, I've read lots of books).

My oldest has been hassling me to watch this, and now YOU like it...I may just have to preview it to see if my kids can see it.

I'll have to watch it on a smaller screen though...I do not want to have to keep sucking in my stomach!

...love the review - it looks great! I think we will have to get that one too! We just finished watching the orginal "Charlie and the Chooclate Factory" with that crazy Gene Wilder and my kids loved it's weirdness!

I love "Timeline" too - have you read the book? Scottish/Southern accents are the best ;0)
