The Journey

Sep. 16, 2007 -

We have a menagerie of animals.  My mom has always been a HUGE animal lover...I tried to pretend I wasn't the same but I am.   For instance, we have/had two dogs, three cats, a couple of guinea pigs, a rabbit, etc.  Most of them have been rescues.  This is Casey:

Casey came to us as a puppy. She was a from a litter my friend's dog had.  She was on her second home and wasn't being treated properly, so we took her with the intentions of giving her to our neighbor when he got home from work....well, she stayed (with us ).  I complained a lot. After all here I was with a 6 y/o, an almost 4 y/o, and a 1 y/o and now a dog!! ARGH...but ya know I loved the big pain....

Anyway, yesterday I went to the Women of Faith conference. (I will talk about that another time.)  When I  got home, I came over to the computer to check out some WOF stuff.  DH came in the dining room to get the dogs to go outside and Casey just wasn't moving.  She had died.  Under our table in the dining room.  Her favorite spot.  I LOST it!!! Completely lost it.  I (the one who complained) was hysterical.    Our other dog was right by her side. After all, they'd been pals for almost 8 years.

Casey wasn't doing well before but she still had the energy and motivation to get excited when Maryann came over (she LOVED Maryann and vice versa), she still had the energy to bark at the mail lady, and she still protected us.  She had problems with her hips (German Shepherd hazard) and she had lumps on her body.  She was old for a big dog.  We took her to the vet regularly and didn't want her to suffer but the vet reassured us time and again that she was still doing well enough to continue her life with ours.  So, she died. At home in her favorite spot.  They become part of our families, don't they?  We grieve for them as well.

The other dog, Westie, he doesn't know what to do with himself.  He keeps looking for her.

So, it is a sad time here.

*sigh*.....
