Homeschool Auntie's trials and triumphs

• Dec. 23, 2007 - My big boy...

Well, Wyatt's first Christmas is coming up really fast and I think I am actually ready for this one...now if I can scramble after Christmas to prepare both mentally and money-wise for the first birthday remains to be seen!

We had the annual family Christmas party on Friday night. Everyone had a really good time. Wyatt was a bit on the shy side; I think because there are so many of us and most of the family is a complete stranger as far as he is concerned. I had several people tell me that he needs more "socialization" because he was so shy. I am not exactly sure what was meant by that...I mean how social can an eleven month old be, anyway?

I was asked if he went to the  nursery at church. To which I said he would; you know if we had a nursery at church! And was told that he needed to "socialize" more with people his own age because "when we homeschool he won't get the social interaction that he needs" Hello? I am just not quite sure I want my 11 month old surrounded by other babies so that he can catch every cold that is going around.

I do still plan on sending hime to pre-k 3 and 4 at the local Baptist church because I am just not quite sure I have the patience to teach him how to read! But as far as socialization goes...well for now he is just going to have to be an unsocialized baby with his first Christmas to look forward to and nothing else!

Oh, the socialization thing gets on my last nerve. He's a baby, for heaven sakes! People told me the same thing with Jared because he was so shy, even the one's that knew my girls (who were definitely NOT shy.) It's like they can't comprehend that some kids are just that way, and it has nothing to do with how well they are "socialized'. Now Jared is much less shy, but he is still not the social butterfly that my other children are. That's just his nature.

Anyway....I hope Wyatt's first Christmas was great! I can't believe that he's almost a year old!
