Aug. 14, 2006 - reflections on the first day...

We started the day with chores and breakfast and then headed out to the front step for our annual first day of school photos with Mom and Dad.  I'd love to show them to you but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to upload or copy a photo here.  They would go right here.

Our math and the art curriculum haven't come yet, but should tomorrow.

We were done with school in really quick order, but there were times when we had to wait for J to finish her writing.  I just had her set aside her English, so we could move on to the notebook and she went back and finished it when we were done with everything else.  After that, I remembered that I was going to try to have them do their independent work after we were done with together work, so it didn't matter how fast either finished.  I don't want her to feel slow or behind (she didn't today, but I could see her starting to feel bad if we are always waiting for her), so I need to remember that tip.

I forgot to put on the Creation CD while working on the notebook page as it suggests in the tm, so I popped it in right after the kids were done and ds asked if he could draw while he listened and my dd got up and started to dance to the music, both "listening" with their bodies the way God wired them.

After lunch we walked to the library to return some books and on the way back we were reflecting on creation.  I said something like, "Imagine being Adam and Eve and not having any wheels."  (R was on a scooter, J was on her new blades, I was pushing BB in stroller-so we were all on wheels).  And J said, "Yeah, but they had God."    Oh yeah, you're right babe.

It was a glorious day!

Sounds like you had a wonderful day! I like your idea of taking pictures on the first day of school. I wish I would have thought to do that.

It's fun to see how tall the kids are next to their dad from year to year. Doesn't matter if you do it on the first day. Every year, my mom would take pictures of us getting on the school bus the first day of school, so this is our version of that tradition. Have a great day!

I do plan on using this Timeline notebook during the rest of our education together as a family and we will be adding scriptures, pictures of our girls, and anything that we learn along the way that we can add to the book. Basically I plan to go beyond what a regular line would allow because there is room on the page. I know that MFW covers a lot of history after ECC and there will be a lot more added to the timelines over the years. For instance one of my daughters LOVES horses, so she is going to draw a horse and put it in the book under Creation when God created the animals. We are really happy with the notebook. I hope that you will find something that will work for your family.

I REALLY do appreciate the prayers as I was up all night long again suffering and ended up back at the doctors and had a steroid shot...ugh. I do hope that it works quickly so I can be back to my normal high powered self.
