Aug. 31, 2006 - God is Good
We are reading a book called Dinosaurs of Eden to go along with the creation story in Genesis in which the author states that if we believe that God created the earth in seven 24 hour days, then dinosaurs were created the same day as all the other animals and Adam and Eve. There was enough room on the ark for them. The catastrophe of the flood was enough to fossilize the dinosaurs that didn't make the ark. And I don't know what he's going to say about why they all died. But anyway, this is completely new thinking to me. I really never accepted that the world was created in seven 24 hour days. I've always believed that the 7 "days" were probably "God days", where a day could be 10 million years or more. Anyway, I've never really studied anything from a young earth perspective, so Mama is getting an education too and it's shaking up my belief systems. Amazing!
Oh! And get this. We are reading The Tanglewood's Secret for our bedtime reading (one of the MFW suggestions). As we were reading, J mentioned how she has Jesus in her heart and so we talked about giving her life to Jesus. She asked if we could pray together and I told her that her prayer had to come from her heart. She prayed and gave her life to Jesus. Praise God! She was almost too excited to go to sleep, so she said she was going to keep praying and that she felt so much joy in her heart. Then at storytime last night, the character in the book prayed and asked the Good Shepherd to find her, so we were talking about J's prayer and R said, "Have I done that?" So if he hasn't, he will be soon. Never knew a curriculum could be so life changing, but then God can use anything for his purpose, right!
Last night J had her first soccer practice. She is a little go getter. She's not the fastest kid on the team, but when her coach would say, "Go get it, J" it was almost as if you could see her put on determination, put her head down and get in there to take the ball. It seemed that as long as she felt her coaches thought she could do it, then she would just get in there and do it. She was excited that the kids she was practicing with are all on her team and "some of them, Mom, are good!"
We got a revised football schedule for R last night. I was excited after I reviewed it because the two games that interfered with our dance schedule got moved to parks that are really close to the kids' dance studio. Thank you Lord. You are a God who cares about details.

I am so thrilled for your daughter! And for you! It is so very special to be present at the birth of a new believer, especially when it's your child. My two sons both prayed to receive Christ with me. God opened their hearts, like your daughter, when the time was right. We're now praying that my 5 yo daughter will soon become a believer, too. Take care and God bless!

Along with everything else you have to do, I've tagged you! See my post for questions. If you prefer not to answer, that's o.k. (It does take some time, I spent way too much time this a.m. on my tag!) Enjoy your day!

So excited that you are finding out that not only is our God trustworthy, but so is His Word! I was exposed to a video on Dinosaurs from Answers in Genesis years ago that made me go WOW! Ken Ham rocks.
And how exciting that your kids are really making their faith their own. What a great mom!

We are using MFW also - K this year and are currently on the 1st lesson. - Unfortunately it has been raining for a week! :-)
I am trying to wrap my brain around the "young Earth" thinking as well. I grew up going to public school and have non-Christian parents. So to me - Evolution was fact...
Well of course now I understand that Creation is fact and Evolution is just a theory (funny they didn't TEACH it that way!). For the longest time I was a millions-of-years creationist, but I am really trying to educate myself. The Answers In Genesis website has helped quite a bit.
God bless ~ Suzanne
P.S. Congratulations on your daughter - that is awesome. :-)
