A Beautiful Vision

May. 26, 2008 - Cooking at Young Chef's Academy

Posted in Out & About

Young Chef's Academy is for kids who love to cook and it was made for my kids! I was amazed at how much the kids learned. From measurement to chemistry (how gluten works to "glue" the gases together causing the dough to rise and expand like a ballon!), this place has it all covered.  It was a great learning experience, not to mention how much we enjoyed eating the pizza and sweetheart brownies they made! My kids made the brownies again at home the same night. If you have a Young Chef's Academy in your area, you should definitely give them a call.  It is definitely on our list of places to visit again!

Here's Little Girl & a friend

And Big Girl & a friend

Big Girl is working hard to remove the air bubbles from her flour. Check out her technique .

Little Girl thinks this is a piece of cake!

Here is Chef Michelle (who was awesome) and the kids' other friends. They are all eagerly awaiting their turn with the flour!

May. 26, 2008 - Our Weekend in New Orleans

Posted in Out & About

We spent this weekend in New Orleans and, I must admit, we had a ball!  This was my kids' first visit to the city. Our first stop was the Aquarium of the Americas.

Wow! Talk about a big mouth! This is a model of the mouth of a prehistoric shark. According to the Aquarium, it is comparable to the size of the great white shark.

The kids enjoyed exploring aquatic life. I think their favorite thing was seeing the sea dragons!

I tried EXTREMELY hard to refocus the kids' attention to something other than the ferry boat. Let's just say it didn't work! Here we are riding across the Mississippi River. The kids loved it and I love the BREEZE!

Although we were there only a few days, we had a great time and the kids learned alot.
