Soaked from playing football yesterday, in the rain.
That was our vocabulary word for the day. I had no idea explaining the word dainty to 3 boys would be so challenging. After giving the definition and a few examples I asked them to give an example of something dainty.
“Well, you know firewood Mom, and then there’s kindling. The kindling is dainty as compared to the firewood.”
Ummm OK.
This went on and on. The one that hit home was, “Think about my tea cup. Now compare it to Dad’s Starbucks cup. Which one is dainty?”
We are using A Word a Day from Evan-Moor. I downloaded the e-book so I didn’t have to keep track of one more thing or find space for it. Then I printed out a form from the book for the kids to fill in. I just pop open the laptop at circle time and discuss the word. They have their clipboards, paper and colored pencils ready. Easy-peasy. Hands down, it’s the discussion we are having over these crafty little words that makes this book worth it’s weight in gold.
Yesterday’s word was clever. I asked them to share and write about a time they were clever. J & C had no problem with this, but Z couldn’t think of one. Up to the plate, J & C, with a time they thought Z was clever. Oh the smile on Z’s face is forever burned in my memory. I was having a Mom moment. It was beautiful!
