Community Supported Agriculture

Have you guys heard of this organization?  It's wonderful!  We're participaing this year and with a $550.00 payment we receive 16 weeks of fresh, organic produce from local farmers.

The first week we participated was actually week 2, so we gots lots of goodies.  We were given a book entitled From Asparagus to Zucchini, a guide to cooking farm-fresh produce, some local honey, organic range eggs, and greens of all sorts and other veggies.  Collard greens, Bok Choy, Spinach, Green and Red-leafed lettuces, radishes, Swiss Chard, and a box of strawberries.

This week's box had white radishes, curly-leafed lettuce, grape tomatoes, beets, Bok Choi, eggs, and Swiss Chard, and some parsley and another flat leafed salad green.  I can't seem to remember the name of it, right now.

All the produce is from local farmers who participate in CSA.  We drive about 20 minutes to one of the farms to pick up our large Rubbermaid tub.  They are packed earlier in the day, and kept chilled in large refrigerators inside their garage.  When we arrive we give them our empty tub in exchange for the FULL one.

Here's a website with info. about CSA's and I think if you read through there's a search engine for finding one near you.

Tonight we enjoyed a salad from the Bok Choi and radishes, and parsley.  I think I'll roast the beets for a salad tomorrow night.

Here's to fresh, organic foods the Lord has blessed us with here on earth!

I will check the link... I wonder if they have something in MN?

Enjoy your summer!

I just heard about this last week from another friends blog, but she lives on the west Coast and didn't give any links. I just figured it was something done out there. I am so happy to find this! I'll probably be looking into signing up very soon.

Thanks,
Deb
