• Wednesday, March 22, 2006 - Introducing "The Clean Heart, Clean Home Challenge!"

I have to confess... I'm officially in "nesting" mode!  Now, as if having a baby coming soon wasn't enough motivation, don't forget that our house is up for sale as well, and as I watch the snow melt, I see not only everything that needs to be done inside, but everything that has to be taken care of outside as well (don't even get me started on the garage...).

In light of the fact I'm feeling overwhelmingly behind and crunched for time, I thought I'd better get going on being organized and getting my act together!  I've TOTALLY got "spring fever"!!  Of course, I couldn't just do this by myself... I need others who are just as disorganized and behind as myself to make me feel good (a;lksdjf;alsdfj;ldsf), so... anyone else care to join in the:
CLEAN HEART, CLEAN HOME CHALLENGE!!

This is going to be "official" so, get your printers on "standby", your ink cartridges filled, and paper ready cuz we're going to be putting together a "To Do List" that's gonna help us get on track... both in heart and home (while keeping the fact that we're homeschool moms in mind as well)!

I'm getting the final touches on the ORGANIZER that I'll be sharing in PDF format for you to print out.  For those interested in doing this together, we'll make plans to begin April 1st!  Feel free to add the "Clean Heart, Clean Home Challenge" button to your site as well to spread the word!  The organizer will be set up for anyone to join at any time, so please don't hesitate if you hear about this after we've begun, or if you just can begin on our set date of April 1st... just print out the pages, get your organizer together, and begin any Sunday!

I have been working very hard this year to get my home in order. SO much has been done, but there is still SO much to do. I did a post yesterday about what I have done so far and how I am involving my children. Thank you for doing this challenge as it will provide me with extra motivation.

I think I'm in...
I hate committing to things I don't follow through with, but I'm definitely feeling convicted in this area having just moved back to Peru; our house is a mess!! We're missionaries and we just came back from some time in the States. In a few months we are planning to move from the city where we have been for the last couple years to another city 6 hour drive away. Whenever we move or travel, which is quite often, it throws off our routine quite a bit, so this ex-perfectionist girl who likes having things all planned out in advance has definitely had some things to learn!! Needless to say, our house is in need of some serious sorting/cleaning. Also, wanting to get things in order as far as hearts go as well. Travelling/moving wrecks havoc on our attitudes, since things are sometimes stressful packing, sorting, flying, staying in hotels, bussing, unpacking, re-organizing and trying to get back into regular routine of life several times a year with 4 small children! However, we are confident that even though perhaps "...burdened beyond measure, above strength, so that we despair even of life..." this is only so that, "...we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead." So, trusting that HE will give me the necessary grace to improve our quality of life, I will make an attempt at this Clean Heart, Clean Home Challenge for as long as it is helpful and not something more to add to the already abundant pressures of life! Thanks for the inspiration :)

It's late. My brain can't focus but I think I'm supposed to post here. I love reading cleaning lists so anything you've got is great. I love to read about how others clean and organize so I can think about whether or not I can do something more efficiently.

Is that what I'm supposed to say? I hope so. OK, now to try the e-mail thing too. I really shouldn't be online after 9pm.

I too am pregnant (but just found out the other day) so I want to get my house in tip top shape before this new one arrives. I'm a big clutterer/packrat. My goal is to get rid of excess clothes (I can always buy new ones once I lose weight), and excess stuff that I haven't looked at since we moved here 2 years ago.

Indeed, I've worked on decluttering my home the past year of so, threw out tons of things and passed on many to the local thrift store. But there's still no organization at all. So I'm going to do my best to join you in this. I need the motivation to clean up my home and declutter things. I want organization not chaos.

I keep starting, then stopping, then decluttering, then buying more things, then organizing, then watching things fall apart.... that's what I've been doing the most of lately- watching things fall into disarray... it's not good...
My first thought was- I don't really need to join in this, I'm trying to pluck away at implementing flylady's system, it has done me a world of good the past couple of years, but I have such a long way to go- I love her "babysteps" and "you can do anything for 15 minutes", that's what keeps me going.
But I always like to see what others come up with for lists, schedules, chore charts, etc... and having a much smaller group of ladies (flylady has over 200,000!) and all of the homeschooling moms nonetheless, will make the accountability so much more real and meaningful, so yes, count me in.

Since we have our house for sale, I had to get organized...well, don't open any cabinets or closets. But, a lot of stuff was cleared out. However, there is always room for more...as my garage photo from 2 weeks ago's Get Real post indicated. So, yes, I'm in. If I can just do one little step (i.e. a closet) at a time!! I'm going over to ebay right now...oh, more stuff..hey, I"m clearing out, so I'll have room on my shelves!

Sounds like a good challenge so add me to the list. My home needs a major overhaul/cleaning. There's not much clutter that you can see. All my clutter is hidden in closets, drawers, and under the bed. There's dust bunnies everywhere too. Floors need mopping, fridge needs cleaning (again!), pantry needs organizing (again). So I could definitely use some prompting.

Amy,

I just started a challenge with a small list I started in February! I challenged everyone to see how many boxes of stuff they could get rid of by this Sunday. My goal is 10 boxes, so as I am putting away laundry, I am cleaning out drawers and so forth. Also at our coop this afternoon, I found out that a friend is involved in starting up an outreach center, so I will have place to donate to and bless others and it is only 15 minutes from my house vs. 45 miles for a Goodwill. Looking forward to the challenge.

I live in a constant construction zone. I so need this challenge right now to keep me motivated and encouraged!
My husband is a contractor-painter/carpenter..etc. and we all know how this works. He gets the job done at everyone elses house or business and our home comes "when he has time" So I'm dealing with floors that are torn up/unfinished, doors that need replaced, walls that need repainting, two bathrooms that can not be fully used. I've been using all this construction mess as my excuse and reasoning for not getting enough done around here. Mainly becuase it's in so dire need of finishing, that when I clean it still doesn't even look clean. It's very aggrivating. I have a 5 month old that will be crawling soon. So I need to get on the ball around here.

Count me in! I, too am experiencing everything you described, only, I'm not nesting. Maybe I'm ten months behind, as I've rarely been on time for anything. Maybe instead of "nesting", it's "testing", as that wonderful end of the school year ritual is quickly approaching. In any case, I need to do some major decluttering before our new house is finished and we have to MOVE THIS STUFF!! Can you say "arrgghhhh"??? "Testing" and the prospect of moving 10 years worth of disorganized "Sentiment" has a way of making one want to do SOMETHING. Hopefully with the CHCHC I'll be able to get a good handle on this stuff (knowing that others are right there with me will be a big plus as well). Thanks for the great idea!!

It seems that God is speaking directly to my family about the very same thing and I did not have the words to describe what He was saying. "Clean Heart, Clean Home" says it all. It seems God has been shining His light on the darkness that we have been living with and stirring us to do something about it. I'm not just talking dust bunnies... I tend to be the shove it under the bed or in the closet or under the cabinet kind of cleaner. There comes a time when the bed or cabinets can't hold anymore of our junk! They explode and you have to pull everything out and redo it the right way and put everything back; in it's proper place hopefully.
Well, our hearts are the same way, and I have been crying out to God lately to change our hearts into the hearts their suppose to be. That as a family we would love what He loves and hate what He hates. I want us to say "God's way or no way." when it comes to all the junk that gets thrown at us from the everyday cares of this world. My family, has allowed too much of the world's dirt in...and I am ashamed to admit it. So, please count me in Amy and keep our family in prayer because we definately need God to clean our hearts and minds and our home at my house. Hugs, Kathy

After a long serious illness, I have had the hardest time trying to regain my home again. I have 3 wonderful daughters who are by my side learning and I so need to arise to the challange!!

I'm working on decluttering and developing routines right now anyway. I hesitate a little to commit, because I've started programs before................. (You know how it goes!) But, I can see what your plan is and join you for what I can, right? Anything I am able to do helps spur me on. I think I'm in the nesting mode, too - but not due until August.

I had been going along good on my organizing last year, then last spring my water heater went, ruining my floor, closet and a wall in my room. I had to pack everything into many boxes to store throughout our little until my stepfather could finish rebuilding, which was in August. He would have been done a lot sooner if he did not have to work almost every day as well.

Then I could finally paint and move back in, right? Wrong! I broke my arm! I had to have surgery and then therapy, then I got sick. I painted my room in November, then Skye got sick and was sick for three months! I did get moved back into my room before Christmas, but everything around here is such a mess again.

Well there is my story. Now I am just as unorganized as ever.

My added challenges (besides household and homeschool organization):

*organizing my writing
*organizing my scrapbooking and cardmaking
*organizing my crafts
*a daughter who is less organized than I am!

Here's the thing...I've tried to "get back on the bandwagon" of organization around here for quite some time but to no avail. My spirit lacks encouragement, my body lacks discipline and my mind lacks the ability to pull it all together. I could blame it on a million things but the truth of the matter is, I haven't taken my role as homemaker seriously yet and as sad a revelation as that is, I'm turning over and new leaf with each day and am ready to "step it up" around here!!

.......I have 65+ guests coming for Easter Dinner. My "nooks and crannies" are cluttered and my vaulted ceilings have spiderwebs hanging.....this is NOT Halloween, so I need help getting motivated to get it done!

I had to tweak your code a bit for blogger to accept it but I finally got it to work. Thanks for the how-to you posted.

Blogger wouldn't accept it until I added </a> to the end of the last line. It's a closing tag.

I have been feeling scattered in my home and in my homeschool for quite some time. The Lord has really put it in my heart that something needs to change and that something is ME! Your challange makes it that much more encouraging. I know that I must disipline my DC as well as myself and with the Lord's help we CAN do it. Wow! And I thought I was the only one God was convicting about getting my house in order! I am so totally in, even though I had already started tackling my clutter. No more yard sales for a while. We're going to start homeschooling this fall and it might help if our house is clean enough to find their books! LOL (or is that a;lsdkfja;lsdkjdf) I'm actually excited about cleaning my house!

I'll join! I am feeling claustraphobic becuase of the lack of organization in my life. Mainly, it's due to lack of space here in the states but it seems I have the same problem in Romania. We'll be on the road for about 5 weeks, starting April 11 so I don't know how much I can follow along, but perhaps I'll have something to go by when we return to Romania this fall.

...as an example to my children that it is important to order your life and days. I recently did a post on letting God order my days and I feel that a clean home is a reflection of the inner state of a person. I need to get both in order and teach my children that, too.

A clean heart and and clean home are what I strive for every day. Accountability in each of these areas will be such a neat help and organizational tools will be a neat treat. I have acquired many things from my grandmother over the last year and a half. She passed away last week and I acquired several more large pieces of furniture. While I am blessing others with our entertainment center and other things, I am in need of more decluttering. Thank you for sharing such a neat opportunity with us.

This challenge sounds like a good idea - I have trouble staying organized, and finding enough hours in the day to homeschool and clean house. I admit it's more about my failing in time management than anything else!

I would love to be a part of this challenge! I'm 36 weeks pregnant and in the "nesting" stage, too! I have VERY little time to do everything before my little one comes along, not to mention finish taxes and about 40 thank you cards from baby showers!
