Our home was struck with horrible news the other morning when we got word of a church member's passing. My husband and I have been teaching a Sunday School class on marriage, and this couple was in our class. He's also a friend of my husband's, as well as their son being a friend of my step-son's. They have four children (the oldest in college, their only boy is in the service and going to be going to Bagdad in a couple of weeks, and their last two girls are still being homeschooled).
"He was in bed and she went to bed later that night and that is where she found him." (Posted by Julie below). The oldest girl and boy are both home and making funeral arrangements together with their mom, who is having an extremely hard time. My husband and I are still in shock, as they were just in our class a couple of weeks ago. They were struggling with the fact that their son was going to be going to war, but told of how it was bringing them close as they drew to the Lord for strength.
Once again, I can't help but thinking about our breivity on this earth and that we're simply not promised a certain period of time here. I can't imagine what this woman is going through now, or what she will continue to go through. I know we recently shared how similar we were when talking with our husbands since they both own their own business and what happens when we try to "help". Her husband and mine also shared many characteristics, and the workings of God in both of our men has been amazing. We know that he is with our Father, but I can't help but think about the love he had for his wife and wouldn't have wanted to have her alone, same as my husband.
Please keep this woman, Carol, and her family in your prayers and I will let you know when the funeral is. If you'd like, you can stop by
her blog and let her know that you are lifting her in prayer.
Thanks so much for your prayers. Be sure to hold your husband a little longer tonight and love him like there's no tomorrow... we're not ever sure if there is.
In Him,
Amy
UPDATE (May 3rd, 9:40pm): The funeral is on Friday at 9am. There is visitation the night before beginning at 5 and a time of sharing at 6pm. Please keep this in prayer and that it truly will be a time to celebrate the life of Tom. Thanks again for your prayers.
