If you can get to some milkweed, then
HURRY! This is the time to learn about butterflies! We went
into our backyard a few days ago, and my son found tons of them!
He put them in his bug cage (nothing new) and the next day it was in a
cocoon! He went back outside and found even more. We have
eight right now and three are in cocoons, and one is hanging upside
down getting ready. We actually watched one in the process!
They are the ones with yellow, white, and black stripes, and be sure to
put fresh milkweed in for them... they're really hungry! We
couldn't believe how much they ate!
I'm getting books from the
library so we can learn more, but I just had to share this so before it
was too late! It would make a wonderful school lesson... one I'm
sure they would remember forever! Blessings to you and yours.
How exciting Amy! Even *I* would like to see that! :-) Too bad we don't have any milkweed around our house... We'll have to be more butterfly friendly next year I guess.
About four years ago I prayed for some caterpillars. God sent me 11 (yes 11!) Luna moth caterpillars. Unfortunately 7 of them died; guess that's why God sent 11 *smile*. We put them in an aquarium and fed them. You are so right! They ate and ate and ate and ate and pooped and pooped and pooped. We watched them cocoon which was sooooooooo cool, but they only hatched out when we were either gone or in bed. (I think they were waiting until we out of the picture.) It was more work than I anticipated but was an awesome experience. I'd like to do butterflies some time.
Last summer I prayed for frog eggs. The way God overly abundantly provided for that one is another story LOL!
Enjoy!
