The "safe code" is one we use on the "BOOK TALK" forum, and wanted to share with those of you who have been asking about it...
Because your blog is accessible to anyone
on-line, please
remember that what is written is for everyone to see... even those who
aren't a part of our homeschool blogging group. Because of this, please do NOT to use
your children's names. It's too easy to get phone numbers and addresses
through the internet, and when it comes to our children, we can't be
too careful, can we?
Please use this as the "safe code" for writing about your children:
The birthorder of your child
The gender of your child
The age of your child
For example: 1.B.5
This would mean: firstborn, boy, age 5
The reason for using the "safe code" is two-fold... not only will
it help to protect our children, but it will be an easy way to
know about the children being referred to (instead of writing how old they are, and giving an explanation each time, ect.).
May God be glorified in our writing and sharing, and may He protect our
families from those who seek to destroy what is good and pure.
I laugh though as we have always used initials and numbers for our kids and even say "Make it so Number 1" to 1G22. I will have to tell them their new codes! *L* We did this because they all have the same initials and gender. They were color coded for MANY years too! Poor things! Think it comes from having 2 military parents?
i am a new blogger and followed you here through your comment on my page. My brother-in-law won't read my blog because he didn't know what ds1 and ds4 meant. if i add more codes LOL he will be very annoyed, but i like your system :)
After reading this blog, I went back and edited all of my previous blogs and my profile. It makes sense and I can get used to referring my little ones as 1B2 and 2B1 (yes, 15 months apart...)
this is so true! my gosh! i was just today 'googling' myself...lol. my mom asked me just the other day if i had ever 'googled myself'...after i picked myself up off the floor from laughter...she had to explain to me what this meant. did you know that my name came up from the hsblogger.com and linked right into my blog! i just realized how UN- anonymous me and my entire family are! I am going to edit out my kids names and do as you suggest!!! thank you thank for the offering the info on the 'safe code'!
Hi Amy
That is a great idea the Safe Code! Thanks for sharing, I will try to incorporate this code. I am a friend of dear TaminAz and I wanted to stop by some of her other friends blogs and say hi since she has been sending so many people my way.
How is MN these days? Do you have much snow this winter?
Feel free to come on by and visit my blog when you have time and if you enjoy it feel free to add me to your list of friends.

You are correct... I do have my first and last name on my profile. In writing my original post, I just wanted to make women aware of how easily accessible things are on the internet, and give an option for them to use if they chose. The "safe code" isn't completely safe (as nothing is other than completely abstaining from the internet posting, and even then, if you've been in your local paper or the like, you're still not safe). The "safe code" also gives a little more information about our children when talking in the blogging world on a consistent basis compared to DH, DD, or DS. The ages help the reader to know who is being talked about.
In today's world, it's extremely hard NOT to find someone if you try. Because I have other websites, I know that I am easily accessible to others, therefore try very hard to watch what I post. I also know that the Lord has a plan for me and my family, as well as this blog, and so "hiding" isn't an option.
I hope that I've not been "hypocritical" and have clarified my intentions. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask.
I do similar to that, but tend more toward the DS6. Hadn't thought about using birth order, too.
To the lady who color-coded her kids... we do too! 1DS6 is blue, 2DS4 is green, 3DS2 is purple/red (purple can be hard to find in some items), and 4DD0 is yellow. I came from a family of all girls with the exact same initials, so we all had a "supplementary" initial. :)
Hello. I got your link from my cyber friend, Janne. I don't use that particular 'safe code' with my children. However, I have, in light of a recent online incident at a former message board I belonged to, have changed and edited all of my blog posts to incorporate 'fairy dust' names for all my children. Meaning I picked fake names for all of my children, and edited all of my blog entries to reflect their online names.
Since I was new to blogs it NEVER occured to me! I shall change this as soon as I can. I wish I had read this much earlier! I suppose I should take off the pics too!
Thank You for being such a help
Judy
This post wasn't meant to scare anyone... just make you all aware. I do have a few pictures of my children every now and then. I do believe that the Lord watches over us and protects us... I just know that there were many things that I had never thought about until my husband had told me, or I learned the hard way.
May you all be blessed as you seek the best way to inspire others on your blogs!
Blessings,
Amy
and a woman seeking the Lord's Will (daily!), a wife (striving to keep the romance alive), a "Smamma" (Step- mother) of one and a homeschooling mom of seven (I was never going to have children), who starts every day over (after messing SOME thing up the day before), knowing God's grace is overflowing (just like my laundry), and so thankful He's blessed me more than I'll ever deserve.
