• Tuesday, June 27, 2006 - SHARE and Tell: Laughter is the Best Medicine

I've been trying to get everything ready for The Clean Heart, Clean Home Challenge (the organizer is being "revamped" and proofed), along with starting a couple new blogs (things were getting crowded here), doing children's church for the months of July and August (with 3 yr. olds - 2nd graders... oh, and I'm doing the curriculum for that too), AND starting summer school as well.  Okay... so are you tired yet?!  All this is absolutely CRAZY to be doing with a month old baby who cries every night because of thrush... I've heard pregnancy damages brain cells, and evidently, I'm no exception...

So, with everything going a million miles an hour in my life... I was just thinking how nice it would be... in some "sick sort of way"... to hear what's going on in your lives.  Now, I don't want to hear how smoothly things are going... NO... I want to hear about how your home is a disaster, the laundry is behind, the apple juice spilled on the newly washed floor after the two year old peed on it... you know... stories to make me feel better about my life!

SHARE and Tell:
  • What chaotic and crazy things have been going on in your life lately?
Thanks for sharing (and making me feel better)!
In Him,
Amy

Funny, but my life sounds much like yours! I am the director of Children's Ministry (2yr. through 6th grade) for our church. I decided this summer to write our curriculum for the older kids since I couldn't find anything that would fit what I was looking for. So I'm running/teaching our Summer Safari that will run through the end of August. Not something I could do without the leading of the Holy Spirit and His strength daily.

Trying to keep up with our home, baseball season for three boys, a toddler who loves to "help", curriculum planning/purchasing for next year, birthday parties that need planning, trips to pack for...oh yeah and my four year old spills something at least once a day. Is that what you were looking for? Hope it makes you feel a bit better. Life is too fast and furious at times. If I'm not careful and stay plugged in to my Source, I will burnout quickly.

Stay plugged in!

Slowly decluttering house before child #5 comes in August.
Puppy training!! I'm the only one in the house who knows how to train a dog. So between me going potty due to my bladder (32 weeks preggy), and taking puppy outside... Oy!
Giving puppy antibiotics everyday for "Kennel cough"
Getting a sample of puppy poopy for vet... ewwwww.. and while preggy... ugh!
Crate training puppy... keeping off furniture...sitting, laydown, stay, shake...
Training the kids of what they can and can't do with puppy. Teaching them how to reiterate what I teach the puppy.
Waking up in the middle of the night to find a dog prezzie in our closet! (Peee-uuu)
Cleaning up sour cream out of the floor... PTL we just bought one of those smaller steam cleaner things for smaller stains.
My house is a mess.. although not to bad because the kids are learning not to leave toys on the floor so puppy won't chew on them.
I'm behind on laundry and dishes.
Feel better?
Only through Chirst's strength can I get done what needs to be done. =)
Hugs,
Di

•Tuesday, June 27, 2006 - Craziness at my house :)

Posted by ThoughtfulMom
We've definately had our share of nuttiness. My DH was gone for the first week of June - which was also VBS prep week. VBS was the second week, with me in charge of the kitchen. I found out on Thursday at noon that I was expected to plan and cook the missions dinner we had scheduled for Friday night. By the grace of God, that came off without a hitch (tacos and nacho fixings). Then last week and this week, my little boy is in swimming lessons in the middle of the day, which throws a kink in everything - it works much better to have such things early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Add in my four-month-old who doesn't like to sleep and my own insomnia issues, and things are more than a little nutty around here. I've not had meals planned or gotten my housework done. We're eating whatever I decide to cook at the last minute, and the house is getting a lick and a promise, but the laundry and dishes are done, the beds are made, and things are presentable - which is good because we often have friends over on a whim to do art or science projects and just hang out. (I'm looking forward to the next Challenge - I had a very new newborn last time around and didn't accomplish much.

So, yeah - things are crazy here.

Sorry to hear that poor little baby has thrush. Have you tried eating a lot of yogurt or taking acidophilus? I *think* that is supposed to help with the thrush. Bless your hearts!!!

I just posted kinda-sorta what you were talking about here.....so when you have a free moment (hah!) go check it out.

I love the dandelion puffs!

We don't have pets and no more babies(sad for me, I miss the baby stage), but my boys do spill at least 3 times a day. My days have been filled with tending to our garden, canning green beans, picking blackberries and making jelly. Killing a poisonous snake( see my blog for the whole story), painting my staircase inside, and yardwork.

Last week was VBS, one night I was Ruth in a skit, the other nights I led the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders around. This week is Cub Scout Day Camp, I have to be there at 7:30 am, with my boys fully dressed and fed, yeah right. Monday we woke up late and did not get breakfast and I felt really bad all day long, so this morning I made sure that I made breakfast for them, guess what.... they didn't want it! Go figure! The camp is from 8:30-3:30, so by the time all the boys have been picked up and we leave it is 4:00. It reminds me to thank God that I am able to be home with my boys. I have seen alot of boys in the last 2 days that don't get a whole lot of attention. These boys are so used to being shuffled to daycare, after school care, being picked up and babysat by grandparents, etc. The whole thing just humbles me. I do have a happy note to add... my husband's company(which is an auto finance co.) has been having a contest for the car dealerships that do business with them. When the dealerships meet a certain requirements then they get prizes and I'm talking tv's, cameras, golf clubs, basically the more cars they sell the bigger the prize. Well at the end of the contest my husband's co. put the credit buyer's and all manager's names in a hat and drew a name. Guess whose name they drew??? My hubby's and he won a Sony camcorder!!!!! Is that awesome or what? We had a camcorder that has been broken for the last 5 years and no one fixes them, so the last videos we have of my boys are when they were babies. I'm really excited! Praise God for his unexpected blessings!!!

Well, this didn't happen to me but to my sister last week. Her daughter ended up in ER with a cut, her husband had a cancer cut off his face, her son is sick, the dryer died, the phone line quit and it took two service calls, her health insurance was accidentally canceled, she's behind at work and the laundry is sky high. She posted Calgon take me away on her blog. J

to have 30 people over for my dd's 3rd birthday party(almost all family) the dishwasher fell out of the counter and then as I was getting something I had stored on the dryer, I knocked over a WHOLE box of tide with bleach all over the garage floor (which doubles in our home as a playroom where the kids were going to play during the party). While I was attempting to clean up the mess(and waiting for my dh to get home from a late father's day golf outing), my 9 mth old discovered he could open cupboards and completely emptied out any drawer or cupboard in the kitchen within his reach.

How's that? Making you feel better?

do I really need to say any more? LOL! I am most assuredly a morning person and turn into a "pumpkin" around 9:30 PM. Our vbs is at night!!!!! DD15 and I are doing music. Not just songs, mind you, but full blown motions and sign language. When I rolled out of bed yesterday morning all I could do was groan. On top of that, I'm also part time secretary at the church and this is the week to put the newsletter together which means I'm working four mornings. My house is a wreck because I'm too tired to clean it! Our church has lost its minister of music/youth and I'm the only one to lead the music. Since I have a 15 year old I'm also helping out with the youth! My plate is full and I'm craving chocolate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not nearly as crazy as your place! But we are having trouble with the car starting, Still trying to find homes for all the school books brought back from the states, homeschool cupboard we do have half collapsed so had to empty it to put back together, 6y/o smeared gooey playdough all over 4y/o and the whole kitchen, and DH walked through the door to wonder what had I done all day!!!!!! Also, I just finished printing out the entire 85 page CHCH organizer yesterday (with my printer this took a couple of hours!) so that I would have it ready and not be running behind on at least one thing in my life - and now you tell us that you are revamping it! So the one thing I have gotten accomplished was a waste of time!!!! But for some reason I'm smiling and enjoying our English summer and school with my two boys! We aren't stopping for the summer, we just take breaks when it suits our scedule. Looking forward to the CHCH challenge, and I'm getting my Mom doing it with me! How's that for a Mother/Daughter activity?
By the way about the thrush, I know this sounds crazy but when someone told me years ago that Yogurt was good for thrush they forgot to mention that they meant EATING it. So I got femenine pads and spead them with yogurt and wore them!!! OK - so I can be a bit thick at times!! But the thing is that it cleared up with lightening speed. So if it is really bad you could try putting some natural yogurt in little ones diaper for a little while and see if it helps! I can't believe I have just admitted this on the world wide web!!!!!!! I'm just going to go and hide now!

It's always nice to know that you aren't the only one living in total chaos! Misery certainly does love company, doesn't it?!
The month of June has been crazy at our house too. We are in the process of adopting a baby from Vietnam and I've been up to my eyeballs in paperwork~ filling it out, organizing it, having it notarized, waiting for it, etc.! And all that on top of the fact that adoption, in and of itself, is stressful!
We had a week of VBS thrown in for good measure~ I taught the 4th grade class. Last year, I loved it (it was my first taste at teaching and I ended up volunteering to teach the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade Sunday School class all year!) This year, however, was quite a different story~ I ended up with a batch of trouble-making boys!
We took a much-needed week-long trip to the beach. It was great. No chaos or stress involved. However, why is it that you come home from vacation and the house has become a mess all on it's own? And, of course, there are mountains of laundry to do (even though we did several loads at the beach)?! Ugh!
Glad to know I'm not alone.
Heidi

P.S. I'm somewhat new to blogging, and though I've heard of your CHCH challenge, I'm not really familiar with it. I'll have to check it out.

I have a recipe in my daughter's baby book for treating thrush. I think it was mainly water with a drop of Dawn Dishsoap. It was an old remedy given to me by a nurse when I was a new mom. It worked, and I never had to deal with thrush again. If you're interested email me and I'll look up the exact mixture.

PS Seeing your warning about using our children's names, I went back and editted all my posts. Thanks for the tip.

I'd love to share with you but someone stole my preggo brain this week and replaced it with puke-scented air from my gastro-afflicted family and now I can't remember anything else.
