• Wednesday, September 6, 2006 - 48-Hour Prayer Chain for the Godfrey Family (NOTE: due to the overwhelming response, we have covered the Godfreys OVER 48 hours of prayer!)
Quote from Susan's Blog on Sept. 6th: "This morning has been really rough. We are now less than 1 week away from the baby's birth and on the way home from taking Marty to work, it hit me pretty hard. I had to pull over and cry and pray for a bit. I'm feeling better, but the tears are still just under the surface..."
Please join in prayer to uplift this family during this tough time. Susan Godfrey (former blog at homeschool blogger) will be induced on September 12th, with a potential c-section if things don't go well. Because the baby has potter's syndrome, it will die within hours of being born. They have known about it since the beginning of June and her blog has contained many heart-wrenching posts about the life alive within her that's safe until it enters the world.
For those of you interested, please leave a comment (please include your blog address) as to what time slot(s) you would prefer to pray for Susan, baby, husband, and two children, and then click on the following link to print out a "reminder sheet" to put somewhere you can see so you won't forget the time you've committed yourself to (this is central time zone, so adjust accordingly... if you're having trouble figuring your time zone in relation to this, go to TIME AND DATE . COM). Also, you don't have to pick a time if you'd like to just pray as you feel lead. Please leave a comment letting us know so the Godfrey family can see the many prayer warriors lifting them in prayer! GODFREY PRAYER REMINDER
UPDATE (Sept. 8th): Susan has posted one last time before the baby arrives with prayer requests. She wrote:
1. That we have a quick and safe labor and delivery 2. That I don't have to have a c-section 3. Please pray specifically for my children, Colt (13) and Riley (2). While Colt is really old enough to understand, he still hasn't expressed his grief much and I'm pretty sure that "the dam" will break after the baby gets here. Riley doesn't really understand what's happening at all, but I worry about the emotional scars on both of my children from this. 4. That the Lord's will be done, what ever that may be. While we pray for a miracle we also know that the Lord may have reasons we don't understand for the baby not to survive. 5. That Lord helps us to accept his desicion, what ever it may be. That His grace and mercy comfort us.
Please spread the word on your blogs as well. This will be a tough time for the family, and I'd love for them to be blessed by knowing they are completely covered in prayer!
NOTE: Because of the confusion with time zones and such, please make sure to stop back to be sure I've written you down for the correct time. If I've made a mistake, please feel free to email me and let me know. Also, some didn't write in their blog address or weren't logged in at HSB. Because of the overwhelming response, I haven't had time to search for your links. Thanks for understanding (as I have 6 under the age of ten running around) and thanks again for praying!
(I'm continually adding people who would like to be a part of "Sisters & Brothers in Christ". Please read about it for more information and sign up if you're interested. I also post updates and requests at the top of my blog's sidebar.)
I'll pray for her every day until the time, at 10:00pm. God bless her for not aborting this precious gift from God. The Lord will bless her for it.
I will also pray for a miracle, because with God nothing is impossible.
My blog address is http://www.keepingthehome.com . I'm currently averaging 1,212 visits per day to my site. I will blog about this prayer chain on my site.
Both our children were miracle babies. We will be praying at 8:00 a.m. on all three days for God to keep His hands over Susan & her baby. Praying for a miracle.
In Him, Elton

I will pray every time I think of her and will also commit to 11:00 PM for the 11th and 12th central time.
Thanks for doing this Amy you're the best!
Emily is doing really good we are still just waiting for it to be time to scan her again to see radiation got all of her cancer. That should happen around Christmas time. I'm doing good most of the time but the closer we get the more worried and anxious I become. Prayers for Emily are still GREATLY appreciated!! =)
As far as Jennifer I haven't heard anything from her friend again. I know that they are still taking donations up through October 15th. Thanks for asking about her too!

Just a suggestion: if commenters could post their time zone, it would help to get all the time slots covered. 11pm in PT is much later than 11pm ET, while 5am ET is a lot earlier than 5am PT (and there's only three hours difference between 11pm PT and 5am ET!).
I will be praying at 9pm CT every day from now until we either hear that God sent a miracle or that there is another angel in heaven. I've linked to this list on my blog, too. Thanks for thinking of this, Amy.
I'll take the 4am slot (ET). I'm in England so that will be 9am for us, so we can pray for them at the start of our school day. I will also take 2.30 am (ET) Which will be 6.30am for me to pray in my quiet time. On 12th and 13th. Thanks Amy for organizing this!
Hi I will pray starting the 12th Sept every day at midday AEST which is 8.45am 11th Sept. in the States. I have blogged about this in Spending Time With Glenys
http://spendingtimewithglenys.wordpress.com/tag/introduction/
Praying for a miracle!
I don't get a regularly scheduled prayer time with my young kids, but I do pray everyday. So, I'll just pray those days when I am praying. I'll also ask my women's Sunday School class to pray.
I will take 3 am Central time all three days. As I nurse my three-month-old, I will be asking God to give the family as much precious time with their baby as possible. What a heart-wrenching experience.
I'll pray at 7:00 am EST and then anytime the baby wakes up, which is usually not until 5am. Then I will pray throughout the day as I think of it as well. I'll have to come up with some sort of visual reminder -- like everytime I look at my hummingbird feeder, which is outside the kitchen window, I'll be reminded to pray. Or whenever I hear our bird clock go off on the hour I'll send up a prayer.
Thank you for doing this, Amy!

Wow. I was just blog-surfing, but I'm so glad I came across this. I can hardly imagine what it would mean to face this, and yet what a beautiful testimony of love. I protest abortion every week here in my hometown, and a few weeks ago a young woman started to shout at us and challenge us. Her reasoning? "What if the baby is sick?" She wasn't willing to talk with us, but how I wish she could see the truth that your friend has seen.
I will be praying, though I can't commit to a time slot. Off to follow your links and let your friend know...

I will (and have been) be in constant prayer for our beloved sister and her family. Fasting most likely, but that will not be listed, as it needs to be done with only the Lord's knowledge. I commit to prayer for Susan every morning at 7:30 a.m....but prayers go up from these lips intermittently throughout the day. 7:30 a.m. is when the prayer is focused JUST FOR HER and her family. I will be putting out the call/prayerchain need and link here now....
I came here from Candy's site. Especially having lost 2 babies before I empathize w/ Susan & her family. My heart goes out to them. I will pray at 10 am each day. God can do the impossible; I am praying for a miracle!!!! :)
I would love to be in on the prayer chain. I would love to have Sept. 12 at 7:30 a.m. please. Although, I will keep her in my prayers more often than this.
thanks for letting me know ... i'll commit to praying during the night as i'm up feeding my baby (and of course during the day), but i'll specifically pray while we're up at night.

Thank you for inviting me to join in this prayer chain. Prayer in not only a command but it is a privilege to go to our Father on behalf of one of His children.
I can pray at any time, although daily in the afternoons are best for me. I will be lifting Susan and her baby up in prayer. I too, will be praying for a miracle, as Candy said, NOTHING is impossible with God - yet may His will be done and God grant us the peace to accept things as they may happen.
I will commit to praying for her and her family as often as I can. but especially on the hour that she reports to the hospital on September 12th @ 7am. (I'm on Texas time ;)

Posted by Anonymous
For those who would like to do something tangible for the Godfreys, in addition to praying, we are putting together an encouragement box for them. More details are here:
Please add me for midnight at September 12th. http://www.faithprints.com/brideofchrist
Thank you for setting this up for this wonderful family!
Allison
I can pray any time that still needs it. I don't have any children or other commitments outside the home, so I can take a time that may be hard to fill. I'll check back to see what I am assigned to. Thank you.

I have a dear friend that had a baby boy that only lived a few minutes... This is near and dear to my heart. I'll be praying for her when she goes in the hospital.

I will be praying before the Blessed Sacrament on Sunday at 11.30-12noon (BST -UK time)
particularly for the Godfrey family. I didn't see that time slot above, but I figure that the efficaciousness of prayer is outside of the realms of time as we know it anyway :-)
I will also include the Godfrey family on the prayer section of the church bulletin sheet I'll be typing up tomorrow.
God Bless

Thank you for your comment on my blog (http://knittogether.blogspot.com/) alerting me to Susan's prayer need - she will be in the forefront of my prayer life, and I plan on contacting her later today. It is such a privilege to pray :o)
What a great idea! I will keep the Godfreys in my prayers, but I would like to be a part of the prayer chain at 1 p.m. on September 12. Blessings!

Sorry if that got confusing with time zones and all! My family all live on the east coast so I always think american time as eastern! Yes 12:30am is just fine! I did notice that someone else already had 3am, so if it helps you can move me to 3:30 and spread things out a bit! If not then 3 am would be fine.
Just to let you know, I've also blogged about this tonight on the UK national blog (HSN). I thought that some of the UK bloggers might be able to pick up some of the 'wee hours' time slots as they are 'normal' morning for us! If you do hear from any of them, I gave them all eastern time to work it out with, so they would probably be working it out the same as I was - SORRY!
Thanks again for all you do on here! God bless your family as you minister to others in His name!
I would love to pray for this family at 8:30 pm (Wisconsin time) for all three nights, the 11th, 12th and 13th. Thank you for organizing prayer, this is a wonderful way of showing the love of Christ. In Christ, Vetta (Redeemed)
I do not know this family, but will definitely be in prayer for them on Sept. 12th at 10:30am. I have cared for families in this situation and my heart goes out to them. I pray that they are able to spend precious moments with this special baby.

The Godfrey Family is definately in my prayers!! I will spread this message to all my friends and ask them to pray and to spread the message as well.
I will pray for Susan, and her baby and family, in my own time with my family. May God be with the Godfrey Family and hold them with His healing hands!
on the 11th at 7 p.m., 12th at 7a.m., and 13th and 9 a.m. Central time zone. I don't have a blog right now but will cover this family in prayer constantly but for sure at the times listed above.
It looks like all 7pms are empty..I would like those if I can.
I have been praying for her often...

Thank you for letting me know about the prayer chain. I pray for her family each day but I’ll also take the 10:30 pm times each day. Praying for strength and peace and a miracle from our dear Lord.
I will pray during the 5am slot for both Sept 12 & 13. If you need someone for the 4:30am slot as well, please contact me at sarahsotherblog@hotmail.com. I will fill the need if no one else can.
Also, I will be singing on an intercessory worship team at the International House of Prayer (http://www.ihop.org/Group/Group.aspx?id=19646) from 6am-8am on the morning of both Sept. 12 & 13. I will share this prayer request with our team.
Sincerely,

I will be keeping them in my thoughts and prayers - my admiration goes out to them as well. My youngest children and I will light a special candle just for them and their baby.
However, if there is a slot that needs to be filled to complete the prayerchain during the night, I can be an "alternate" since I am in Germany and we are 6 hours ahead of EST.
I only heard about this today. Be assured that I'll be keeping the family in my thoughts and prayers, and we will all will, here in South Africa. It's so sad, but yet, God has a purpose and a special plan. We need to keep our eyes fixed on Him. Blessings on you all. I have so much I can say, but no words to express it.
Hi Amy, thanks for letting us join in this - what an honor. I am uncertain as to our schedule next week, but I will be holding Susan and her family every time Father lays her on my heart - at the very least, every time I change a diaper. (granted, that doesn't get as much prayer coverage now, with only one in diapers, as it used to when there were 3 of them, but it still is a good way for me to remember.)
Blessings,
Dawn C
I also posted info re: this at my blog.
I'd love to pray for the Godfreys on Sept. 11th at 10:30 p.m. and at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 12th. I just found out about this yesterday, and my heart breaks for them. I'm honored to go before the Throne on their behalf.
I will be praying for Susan as I feel led. I was going to pick a time slot, but I've been praying so much for her already...every time I think about her (which is often), I pray for her and that precious baby and her family. I know Monday night and all day Tuesday I will be praying often, and have her induction written on my calendar. My heart is absolutely breaking for Susan, and I cry for her. Praise God for her strong faith, she can cling tight to Him and His strength through it all!
Lisa
I will be praying on September 11th and 12th at 8:30 pm (this is right after my children go to bed and I can spend the best time with the Lord). EST. God Bless.
I would like to say I will be praying for them too. I cannot committ to a particular time, but throughout the next week I will keep her and her family on my heart and mind and uplift them in the power of prayer. I will also be encouraging my son to join in with me. He is three his name is Peter.
My husband and I lost our son, Samuel, to Potter's April 29 of this year. Sign me up anywhere you need and we will commit to pray for her and her family.
I would like to take Tuesday Sept.13 6:30am. If it's taken just put me wherever I'll come back by & check.
Love & Prayers,

I would be able to pray for the Godfrey's at either 6:30 a.m. or 8:30 a.m. (CST) on Sept. 12. I will also pray throughout the day if either of those slots is no longer open. I have been holding this family up in prayer daily.
Thanks for coordinating this.

I have been folowing Susan's blog since June. Please put me down as someone who is praying for them. I don't think I can put a specific time but I will bring them to the throne of grace each morning and night.

I just heard about the Godfrey family and visited her blog site. I will be keeping them all in prayer, including the little life within. I will also pray her induction goes well and that she can avoid a c-section to spend any time with her new baby. Praying for them all. My 4 1/2 year old daughter says "I feel sad for them and the baby".
Amy,
Since we are half-way around the world, we will be in the middle of our day during nighttime there. So, all that to say put me down also for Sept 12. for 1:30am, 2am, and 2:30am.
Thanks again.

Please put me down for 7am on the 13th. As with many others, I will be praying many more times during this time frame...but I will make a committment for the 13th.
What an amazing woman of God. I will be lifting Susan and her family up in prayer over the next few days. Thank you for sharing.
Warmly

I am on xanga but am just coming over to homeschool blogger:-)
I'll pray on Tuesday from 1:30 am to 2 am...that is if it's my time.....what time zone is it? My time is Washington State, US....whatever time that is...
it is now 4am. I am up an unable to sleep. I did not know why until I read this post.No one is posted at 4 am. Heavenly Father, God of all comfort, He who forms us in the secret place, we beseech you on behalf of this family to flood their lives with your love, your grace and your peace as you bring forth this blessed child into their arms. You alone have numbered our days before even one of them comes to be. You alone know the hour of our birth and the hour we step into your arms for all eternity. Your ways are higher than our ways. What we do not understand we place in Your care. Your plans bring forth more than we can even imagine. Send Your Holy Spirit as Comforter, Healer and Teacher to this family and to all who pray for them. For we have much need of Him. To Him who is able we Praise Your name, be glorified. In the Name of your Beloved Son Jesus from whom we are given much grace in time of need. Sweet surrender be yours, amen
I'll be praying through the day, both the 12th and 13th. Every time I change a diaper, or get a sippy cup, or any of those other privledged actions of motherhood, I'll pray.
I'll be praying throughout the day tomorrow and waiting to hear the story. Much love to Susan and your dear family. May you feel God's arms around you.
I replied a few days ago, but didn't see my name just now (but I could have just overlooked it- it's getting late tonight!)
Anyway, I'll be praying for her Tuesday at nine-thirty am (or ten).
Thank you for organizing this.
Blessings,
