• Thursday, September 22, 2005 - Living in Chaos!

Okay... so as I walk through my house (with my robe on... yes, I've taken a shower but haven't been able to find a complete outfit yet between the laundry pile and clothes in my room) I had to stop a second and blog (naturally).

I NEED to know why this happens... how does my house continually get so trashed?  How do I constantly get so behind?  Am I the only one on earth experiencing this overwhemly state of chaos?!

I feel as if I'm constantly having to "bulldoze" my home instead of being able to just keep up!  Then, there might be a few days where I'm seeming on track... and then, the toilet overflows and leaks into the basement or something (yeah, like that would really happen, right?... check past blog...)

So I need to know... tell me everything... any advice... what you do... the whole works!

I have tried Flylady, and she is great---but I don't consider myself to be truly flying yet---too rebellious in nature, I guess. But I occassionally print out things to read to my kids, like the laundry ideas. My 1g13 has been a major help, working out a schedule and sticking to it. Start simple, do one thing that words until it becomes a habit, and also get rid of the excess!!!! (Now I just need to take my own advice, LOL)
hugs,
Nancy

you've got to be kidding me...you had a toilet overflow and leak into the basement too??? I had that a few months ago...while i'm doing laundry in the basement, all of a sudden I start hearing water dripping, then it starts pouring into the crawl space....I run upstairs and the toilet from the 2nd floor is overflowing from the tank...luckily I know to turn it off in the back...so hear we are about 3 months later, the toilet has been taken out, the sub floor has to be replaced (which it still hasn't been) and the new tiles are still on the counter...ugh...trying to save money doing it ourselves, ya know the drill....well to encourage you about bulldozing houses...my living room floor is piled high with dirty laundry that my dh finally just dumped there (sorted finally after 3 days) and I have no ideas for you, because all the ones I usually end up doing last for a while and then they don't....i'm in the same boat -- it's called having lots of kids !!

I only have one kid, a 13 year old son. I pick up constantly. He does some chores but I actually handle most ot the housework.

As a child of a family of 5, my mother did give us daily chores. I can remember washing dishes, sweeping, dusting, vaccuming, ect.

If you get if figured out...let me know. It does get much easier as the kids get older, my 4 are now between 8 and 15. They actually do help a fair bit, and the state of of the house is much better than it used to be. I am just NOT a schedule, routine type person..and I think that is the key to maintaining true order and decency! btw I'm not knocking schedules...I wish I was wired a bit better in that dept.

Just blogged about this same thing!

Going to update my 'Mission Control Log'. Will have to blog about setting it up. I can't stick to time slot scheduling (except for appointments, etc.) it's too restrictive for me, and puts me on the defensive when I fall behind. I do love having a standard schedule of X is done in thus and such order before break, Y is done in thus and such order before lunch, etc. Much easier, and offers more potential for success.

Hmm . . . will start writing about how I put it together in the next day or two!

I have a two year old and a one year old, so I am not in the same place with you, especially in terms of divvying up chores. I did try FlyLady for a few months, but it was too much for me and the little ones.
I found motivatedmoms.com and have been using that for a year. It is by far the best option for me. I no longer read organization and cleaning books; I just follow my daily tasks they set before me.
